I guess this counts as a TV show, but this week I watched the Netflix documentary Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich. I wanted a better understanding of the hoopla. So interesting and only four episodes so an easy – well, quick – watch.
I finished The Bear last night. I can only hope there’s a Season 5. I recall, @skieurope, that you didn’t like it but I really enjoyed this season.
I liked it better than season 3, but less than the first 2
Here’s more info: Watch Billy Joel: And So It Goes (HBO) | HBO Max
For anyone interested in history, I high recommend this series on Disney Plus: Genghis Khan: The Secret History of the Mongols
Thx for the Billy Joel recommendation. It’s long, but for some of us, a fun time travel adventure. He had a long, versatile career and it does a good (although a times a bit labored) job of putting it all together.
We just finished binging “Stick” with Owen Wilson. Very much enjoyed it, it was in the same vein as “Ted Lasso.” It’s about sports but not really about sports, has a lot of heart.
Just finished watching last episode of “Holidazed” this afternoon. Not a chance it will be nominated for any television awards, but it seemed cutting edge for Hallmark with one of the story lines about a same-sex engagement & wedding. Not the first time Hallmark has gone there, but I thought it was the boldest and finished the episode saying “Well done, Hallmark” as I know there are many Hallmark viewers who need to have their horizons broadened (some are related to me). I thought it was a nice Christmas in July offering given the lack of strong viewing options out there during this summer lull.
Thanks for the recommendation. I really enjoyed the pilot. Just what I needed today.
Watching Code of Silence on Britbox. 3 episodes released so far, 3 more on consecutive Thursdays. Very suspenseful police procedural. Deaf cafeteria worker is brought into a case when police need a lip reader. She injects herself into the case at great peril.
Very well done.
Here’s the first paragraph, in case you hit a paywall.
If you can’t take an across-the-pond trip this summer, HBO Max and BritBox may have a solution. Starting Friday, August 1, BritBox will launch a curated collection of television shows on HBO Max for subscribers to enjoy. Presented as “The Best of British TV,” BritBox will offer a sampling of 15 shows — from plenty of Agatha Christie adaptations to detective dramas to Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s The Office — the same sort of licensing agreement HBO Max has sealed in the past with the likes of AMC+.
Here’s another article with the full list. It’s good for two months.

Off the list I recommend Three Little Birds, Blue Lights, and Sherwood.
Plus if you don’t know it Silent Witness (start around Season 24… Go back if you liked these!)
I’m finally - FINALLY- getting around to watching Broadchurch and loving it. The only place I can get it for free is on Tubi; lots of ads unfortunately.
Thank you for the list. I really wanted to watch Towards Zero as I am a big Matthew Rhys fan, and didn’t know it was on HBO Max. Going to watch it tonight!
Just finished Shiny Happy People on Prime, 2 seasons. It’s pretty horrifying - season 1 follows the Duggars and their abuse of women and children, season 2 the youth evangelical movement in the ‘90’s and first decade of the 2000’s. Definitely worth watching IMHO.
I read this too quickly–initially thought HBO shows were coming to Britbox, NO, it’s the other way around, dang! (Obviously, we have Britbox but not HBO or Max)
Sad to have finished this season’s Grantchester (Masterpiece Mysteries/PBS). The last episode had a bit of a cliffhanger kinda-sorta adoption-related. Here’s hoping that PBS isn’t banished by the lunatic emperor by the time the next season (final!) is ready to roll.
The good news is that Grantchester season 11 has been filming this summer, but the bad news is that it has been announced that it will be the final season. I love that show!
My fear is that PBS has to cut back on what series they can purchase for airing due to budget cuts caused by you-know-you.
