Halfway through Death By Lightning on Netflix, about the Garfield assassination. Very interesting, learning a lot about 1880’s US politics. Very well done and fairly accurate based on what I’ve read.

Did not know that Chester A Arthur is the only US president to never face an election—he took over when Garfield died, then was denied the nomination in 1884, even as the incumbent (Blaine of Maine got the nomination and lost to Grover Cleveland, breaking a string of 6 straight Republican victories).

Can’t get over Nick Offerman playing Arthur. With all the facial hair it looks like Ron Swanson playing Arthur–when Arthur drunkenly giggles, it’s Ron Swanson’s silly giggle!!

Looking forward to the last 2 episodes tonight.

If you like cooking shows, there is a show on Netflix called Culinary Class Wars (2 seasons). It is a Korean cooking competition.
DH and I have watched it. It is subtitled in English(we turn on the captions).

We like it as it shows us ingredients that we have not necessarily had exposure to in “Western” cooking. It is definitely something to give a shot if you like cooking competitions.

Stumble on NBC/Peacock is amusing me. Very silly humor with a lot of heart.

I started it around the holidays and I like it. It’s not brilliant or novel but it’s well done, funny, sometimes silly, and sweet.

Veronica Mars just popped up on Netflix. I’ve never seen it— looking for opinions.

If you like a snarky teen detective and the early 2000s, it’s a great show. Plus, Kristen Bell .

I love Veronica Mars - watched it originally, then rewatched a few years ago on streaming after we moved to California. Season 1 was filmed around San Diego so I kept pausing to say, I know that place! First recognition was an intersection a few blocks away. The Inn at Sunset Cliffs stood in for her apartment complex so every time we drive by, I say, “Hi, Veronica!”

But don’t watch the fan funded season 4 from 2019. Stop after the original series.

Dexter (2006) is one of my all time favorite shows. I also enjoyed the reboots – New Blood (2021), Original Sin (2024), and Resurrection (2025). I finished Resurrection tonight.

Among the 3 reboots, Resurrection was my favorite, by a good margin. It’s a continuation of New Blood and gives a satisfactory explanation of how Dexter can continue following the events at the end of New Blood. It’s not plausible, but satisfactory, particularly considering after 4 years I don’t remember the nuances of New Blood, and I want the show to continue. I welcome any opportunity to whitewash the final episode of New Blood.

Beyond just the final episode, Resurrection fixes many of the issues I had with New Blood. For example, in New Blood Debra replaces Harry as a manifestation Dexter’s conscience/ghost/feelings, but also completely changes her personality. It just doesn’t work. Resurrection returns Harry to this position, in his traditional supportive father-son relationship. This is fitting with the emphasis on Dexter’s father-son relationship with Harrison in Resurrection. NYC is a more fitting setting than rural upstate NYC, and the new characters are more interesting. Resurrection abandons New Blood’s apparent need to fix Dexter or prove that he is incompatible with Harrison and/or the world. Instead Resurrection accepts Dexter for who/what he is and shows that Dexter can coexist with Harrison and the world, yet still has decent character development and growth.

My biggest critique is the writing. I like the little details that make the show seem more realistic or easier to associate with the characters. Examples include things like Dexter getting winded while walking up a few flights of stairs and needing to pause, or Dexter returning to the NYC street to find his car unexpectedly towed. I dislike when nobody would ever make the choices Dexter or other character makes to achieve the desired goal, yet it still just happens to work out. There are many aspects of the character decisions and events that you need to just go with it, rather than think too hard. Overall, I found the show extremely entertaining and looked forward to each episode. Many end of cliffhangers leading to binge watching, like the thread title. I completed the 10 episode series in ~8 days.

I particularly like that they gave the series a satisfactory ending. Dexter (2006) had a horrible ending, and somehow New Blood was even worse. However, Resurrection didn’t have this problem. Among the 4 series, I liked Resurrection’s ending the most. Knowing that the writers may go in a variety of untraditional directions also added some real tension to the final episode, enhancing the experience. It reminds me of a video game where there are several ways to complete the game, leading to different endings, some of which are intentionally disappointing. This was the way to play the game for the good ending.

Just watched the first two episodes of Best Medicine and it kind of left me flat. Nice cast, but found it very predictable. Not sure we’ll continue with it.

Agree. I tried to like it but it is not anywhere near as good as the British Doc Martin. It is not worth watching.

So disappointing. Haven’t started yet but have/had hope. Will give it a go just in case.

Watched the first episode of Riot Women on Britbox last night. Soooo good! DH was a very reluctant participant but was, to his amazement, favorably impressed too.

We binged The Beast In Me, a psychological thriller starring Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys. Danes captures the essence of pain and loss, and Rhys nails creepy psychopath. Even the plot twists that you foresee hit home, but a couple threw us for a loop. I recommend it.

Thanks for the feedback.

I’m so glad you gave it a try and liked it. When did your episode end (ie., Kitty singing “Violet” or later)?

Kudos to your husband. :hugs: This show isn’t about him at all so it’s great he decided to watch in solidarity then ended up liking the show. It gets darker (Gavin, Rudy, and 3 men are the cause - but unfortunately also a few feckless guys who can’t be bothered. I hope S2 has some of them stepping up.)

Kitty is the most interesting tv creation of 2025 imho.

I watched the first episode of Best Medicine (Fox/Hulu). Kinda corny but maybe ok. Good break from Grey’s Anatomy where I am on season 9.

Thank you for the recommendation! Just finished episode 2. It’s pretty raw and gritty which can be a bit rough to watch but comes across as real. The characters are beginning to develop and I wish all episodes were available so I could binge! DH and I are both originally from the UK so it may have additional resonance for us.
We’re also slowly working our way through the latest season of Shetland, episodes dropping at a glacial pace (ie once a week). Binging has apparently reduced my tolerance for delayed gratification!
