Binge watched tv shows (Part 2)

As usual, Helen Mirren steals every scene in which she appears. And yes, they are a nasty caste of characters.

I am planning on watching as I am a big ballet fan!

Yes, we are enjoying it. We are from NY and have been to Paris, so that adds to the appeal.

It’s fun seeing actors from Ms Maisel characters (Lenny Bruce, Alfie).

As I’m a big fan of the novels, I started Murderbot on Apple+ and find the show excellent. I’m going to look up how they handled the special effects because to my untrained eye it looks movie-quality.

Not to mention Emily Gilmore aka Kelly Bishop, briefly.

China.

You should definitely submit online. That’s how she did it. You’ll have to move everything out for a while, though. I think they do 12 a year. This year is already cast, but maybe for next year.

Shows that I am eagerly awaiting the next season of:

The Handmaid’s Tale/The Testaments- I am watching the current season as they are released and so sad it will end. BUT, the spin-off series,The Testaments. takes place 15 years later. I read the book so am excited about the show. It looks like a June release date, so at least we won’t be waiting long.

Silo - Don’t leave me hanging. I need to know what happens next. They have renewed a 3rd and 4th season that they are filming back to back. Looks like a late 2025/early 2026 release date for season 3, but I’m assuming season 4 (final season) will follow soon after.

Paradise - I like the turn this will take with exploring the outside world and might answer a lot of the questions about the creation of Paradise and who is behind it. Early 2026 release date.

Baylene Out Loud - TLC teases that it’s coming soon.

Gypsey Rose, Life After Lock Up - It’s already out, but not on a channel I have.

I watched the first episode, but I have to admit I really dislike Murderbot’s voice. In the book Murderbot is referred to as it. I imagined it as a much more androgynous face and body. I wish they had gone in that direction.

I’m so excited to watch Murderbot. I left for a work trip the day it premiered and wouldn’t dream of watching it without my spouse who is, like me, also a huge fan of the books. I can’t wait to get home so we can get started!

The Handmaid’s penultimate episode was riveting and amazing! I had to watch the ending twice and still am thinking about it. I’ve been on the edge of my seat most of this season. I can’t wait for the finale, but so, so sad it will be over. I sure hope it doesn’t disappoint.

I’d always imagined Murderbot as a sort of faceless “male” bodytype due to its job which would require being tall and broad, so I wasn’t surprised at its look. The actor does a convincing “this is my human plastic interface appearance” face when the helmet is removed though the earlier levels of “shyness” doesn’t seem strong enough (especially since it considers all humans will happily torture non humans unless the bots are scary) but that’d be difficult.

Watched the first 2 episodes of “Sirens” last night (it’s on Netflix). I enjoyed it, but it is dark and not for everybody.

Yes, that was quite the episode! I can’t believe the show is ending.

I’ve watched four episodes of Paradise so far. I do like it. I’ve been a sci fi fan since I was very young (probably shouldn’t have been reading Heinlein at 7, ha), and this type of sci fi is my favorite. Sterling Brown is an awesome actor, too.

Watching new season of Pokerface and The Residence, so “crazy eyes” and Nicky from Orange is the New Black. That show I loved.

I ran in to Larry David earlier today, while going on a hike/walk with my dog. I believe he was driving the same SUV he does in the show. That inspired me to mention Curb Your Enthusiasm.

It’s the only recently airing sitcom that I enjoy (final season ended last year), and I did binge watch the final season last year. It has truly funny, laugh out loud episodes in a Seinfeldish style of humor about relatable events, that are often similar to the types of things that occur in my life. The difference is Larry often ignores standard social conventions, leading to different choices. The unscripted / improv nature of the show makes it feel more real and natural.

It’s also one of the only long lasting sitcoms (12 seasons) that did not decline in quality over the years. The characters and relationships changed over time, but the show remains true to original premise described above, with Larry getting in to relatable situations. This differs from shows like The Big Bang Theory. I enjoyed the original premise in early seasons, but did not like how that premise completely changes from season ~4 on, and continues in to the spinoffs.

@Data10 I’m a big fan of “Curb” but people either love it or hate it.

Among people that rate the show, far more are in the “love it” group than hate it group. Example ratings distribution from IMDB are above. This puts Curb Your Enthusiasm among the highest user rated sitcoms of all time.

However, I do agree that it is more of a specialized taste than the traditional family laugh track type sitcoms. It’s a different style of humor, and Larry’s behaviors may annoy/offend some viewers in a similar way to how he annoys/offends people he interacts with on the show. While it shares some similarities with Seinfeld, I am not aware of anything else quite like it.

We watched the first couple of episodes last night and enjoyed them. The fact that it’s improvised really is refreshing. DH wants to keep watching it, yay. He usually bails quickly on shows.

Self selection bias.

For the record, I hated it
