Binge watched tv shows (Part 2)

@gouf78 I didn’t know the original was on Netflix! I’ll have to watch it again.

44 years since the original and it still seems fresh. Really a classic in depicting human nature.

Same! I could have written this post! Just recently finished my 3rd rewatch of The Newsroom and was amazed at how much it spoke to where we are as a country today. Very interesting rewatching from this vantage point versus the pre-Trump era.

Just finished Four Seasons yesterday. I Thought that was the end, so happy for a 2nd season. I found it entertaining and cringed a bit as I could see myself in both the Wives and a few issues that crop up in a long term marriage. I think they did a great job of portraying middle age issues.

I’ve not seen the original. I’d like to watch it now.

I’ve watched three episodes, but got distracted by the awful music. What’s up with that?

We watched the first four episodes of Four Seasons. I enjoyed the show and thought it was a fairly realistic portrayal of long-term relationships (both marriages and friendships). I was surprised to see Alan Alda. My H commented that Alda didn’t look healthy. I checked Google–Alda is 89 and suffering from Parkinson’s.

I finished all 8 episodes, and IMO, it didn’t beat the original, but few do. I personally thought the last 2 episodes totally sucked because of the divergence from the original. Until the last 2 words of episode 8. Now I want to see season 2.

Four Seasons was OK. I watched it all the way though. It got better towards the end for me. I’m still trying to figure out if Will Forte was cast into the right role or not.

I just began watching The Residence. I finished episode 1. So far, it’s entertaining and I cracked a smile or two when a couple lines were delivered. I’m hoping Randall Park will keep things humorous.

We finished Four Seasons yesterday and enjoyed it. I look froward to season 2 and where they take the show.

I finished the new Four Seasons and then re-watched the movie, which I last watched when it came out in 1981 and I was 19. Then it was about “old people” and now I noticed how young and fit Alan Alda and Carol Burnett (two of my favorites then and now) looked. And the nostalgia of 1981 – a car in the opening scene I believe was a yellow Volkswagon Rabbit like my friend drove in the early 80s and the gym shorts/socks/Adidas tshirts/long sleeved polo shirts in the college scene were all so familiar from my college years.

I liked the way the new series, being longer, was able to portray the ups and downs and different varieties of marriage, in addition to friendships which the movie emphasized more. A few very familiar arguments/discussions. Can tell Tina Fey has been married more than 20 years. Some parts were really funny/well written. I thought Danny and Claude’s marriage could have been examined deeper. It was very one note. I didn’t like how the story ended for one character that could have had a much longer and developed story and the cliff hanger involved my least favorite character which makes me reluctant to watch a second season if they end up doing one. I think it’s better as a one and done.

Cool! What part of Maine? I wonder if they would ever do ours, ha.

We did the same thing you did - watched the Four Seasons series, and then watched the movie. I thought what you did about Alan Alda and Carol Burnett. The movie seemed so dated, but for my husband it brought back memories - he remembers seeing the movie with his dad.

Did anyone watch Paradise? It was on Hulu but I just watched it on ABC finishing the first season last night. Interesting and twisty plot and good acting.

Looking forward to the next season.

Seeing Julianne Nicholson (“Sinatra” in Paradise) in the role of Dance Mom in Hacks still fascinates me. I rewind and watch the Dance Mom dances over and over. Ha. Such different characters!

Watching an episode a day during lunch of season 2 of Parks and Rec. Had forgotten how very very funny that show is. Episodes like Greg Pikitis and Galentine are just about perfect.

Anyone else watching Etoile on Amazon Prime? It’s about New York and Paris ballet companies that swap talent to boost sales. The Seattle Times (no gift link) called it a “delightful hot mess” where almost everyone is yelling and making dramatic exits. It’s by the Palladino’s of Gilmore Girls and Mrs. Maisel fame.

I found it overly dramatic and some characters unbelievable, but the backstage picture of ballet dancers was fascinating. And the dancing magnificent; they use professional dancers for most sequences. So a lot of fun.

We only discovered Parks & Rec a few months ago and have been steadily chipping away at it. We have a few episodes left in season 7, and I’ll be sad when it’s over. As a small poor city government employee, I find this show just perfectly awesome.

It took me several episodes to get into P&R but I ended up loving it. They had some fantastic guest stars and cameos. I always think of it when I hear someone use “literally” incorrectly. Chris Pratt’s character was so embedded in my mind that it took quite a while for my mind to switch over to Peter Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy. I still forget to think of him as one of the action hero Chris’s (Hemsworth, Pine, Evans, Pratt).
