We finished, H is still complaining a bit (just like after Lost). Just cancelled MGM+ (we waited until they all dropped before starting this season). I do think it started out strong (and I am a huge Stephen king fan, but what was missing were those “oh now I get it!” scary clarity moments. There seemed to be more “wait, what?” going on. Too much happening.
H and I watched The Beast in Me this week. We liked it although I kept yelling at Claire Danes to move out of that house.
We started Harlan Coben’s I Will Find You last night. So far it seems good.
Silo is fantastic! The sets are very realistic, the culture within the Silo makes sense and is quite original for some elements (swear on the Pact instead of a religious book, the apple orchard…), there’s a sci fi element, a mystery element, and Juliette Nichols is a fascinating main protagonist.
Thanks. That’s what it seemed like. I know some shows will film two seasons back to back for that reason but then release them a year or so apart. But I guess they did the opposite.
Esther Smith (Nikki) is the real-life partner of Rafe Spall (Jason). Shortly after season 4 wrapped, there was the WGA and SAG/AFTRA strikes (Trying is a co-production between the BBC and Apple TV+). During the forced hiatus, Esther became pregnant, and you can’t really work that into the storyline.
For Parks and Rec fans:
We started watching a 1-season Rob Lowe series on Britbox called Wild Bill. Lowe plays a burned out American big city police chief who takes a job nobody wants, running a police force in a crime-riddled English city.
Anyway…..
Within a minute of the first episode, a subordinate comes up to Rob Lowe’s character and uses the word LITERALLY, the way Chris Traeger would use it on Parks and Rec: LIT-RILLY.
(BTW, that’s the name of Rob Lowe’s podcast, Lit-rally).
That HAD to be done on purpose!
For anyone doubting The Bear final season due to the first couple episodes, FINISH IT THROUGH.
Well done, standing ovation from me. ![]()
That’s good to hear. I’m on the first season.
Anyone watch Pachinko (AppleTV+)? I just started it, about a Korean family in Japan, occupied Korea and US. Two seasons.
I want to watch this. I loved the book!
I feel like that’s how all the seasons were, I am looking forward to this one.
I watched both seasons. And read the book. It’s definitely worthwhile
Min Jin Lee, the author of Pachinko, gave the Class Day address at Yale this year. It’s definitely worth a listen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6XStr7ErSg
I’ll be the crank here. The last two were very welcome. But not earned by the preceding six. Msny shows have complex arcs to get to the fulfilling ending but this was more of a jagged sharp turn.
I do love Syd and Natalie and Tina though and wish them nothing but the best.
Anyone watch The Five-Star Weekend (Peacock)? I am about to start.
Yes. Very well done, thought-provoking, heart wrenching at times, and lovely.
See, I just lose interest when it’s like that. I’m old. I can’t remember what went before. LOL. I liked it but at this point in time, I don’t know if either of us would even remember much about it. And that is always awkward when pre-teens are on the show and then suddenly they are full blown teenagers.
I finished it a few days ago and enjoyed it. I especially liked Chloe Sevigny and Jennifer Garner–they were great. I have watched a number of movies/series set on Nantucket and have lived there in the summer for 20 years. This show was actually filmed on Nantucket, and it gives you a great sense of the island’s beauty. The Perfect Couple (another Netflix series also based on an Elin Hilderbrand novel) is set on Nantucket, but most of the filming was on Cape Cod, which really bothered me. I guess it’s cheaper to film in other places but sometimes the film makers really screw up. Nancy Thayer (another Nantucket author who sets her novels on island) had one of her books turned into a Hallmark film (Nantucket Noel). It was filmed in British Columbia and there were scenes of a harbor with mountains in the background. There are no mountains on Nantucket Island!! It was very disconcerting.
When there is a long delay between seasons, we typically rewatch the last episode of prior season before digging into the new episodes.
One time we took it much further. We rewatched all 4 seasons of The Marvelelous Mrs Maisel while waiting for Season 5. But it’s a show that my huband and I both really, really liked.
I just started Not Suitable for Work. It reminds me of Happy Endings, a show that I thought was great but only lasted one season.
