It’s fictional but follows her real life story more than the original TV series. It got me reading “Praire Fires” which is a biographical deep dive into the stories and Laura’s life (and her daughters). Really interesting book since it has the political background behind the government giving away of land, the indian treaties and the railroad involvement (which is part of the new series but not really explained).

The description of how awful the locust invasion was comes more alive in the book. That bothered me as a kid reading the original stories. Much worse knowing reading actual accounts!

Any King of the Hill fans? A new season just dropped on Hulu.

The NYT loved it.

My D and I watched Scamanda, a docu-series on Hulu, which is about a young mother who fakes a cancer diagnosis, writes about it on her blog, and cons her fellow church members, friends, and readers into donating money to help her family with her cancer expenses. She goes to great lengths to make the diagnosis seem real and it’s only when a few people close to her realize that something isn’t adding up that she’s eventually exposed and prosecuted. There are only four episodes and the narration is a bit repetitive. I really wanted to know more about the way in which she was able to get IVs, chemo drugs, etc. and then take photos. It’s hard to believe that someone would do this!!

Only 4 more to go . . . .

I have Five Star Weekend on my agenda to start this weekend - what don’t you like or are you tiring of???

H and I finished watching Little House on the Prairie last night. We both though the show was really good.

I don’t know, it was just too much wealthy-to-comfortable suburban housewives for me. And there was one plot I wasn’t interested in seeing the resolution.

The series is based on a book by Elin Hilderbrand–she’s the “Queen of Beach Reads.” Almost all of her books are set on Nantucket and deal with mostly rich folks (but not always). The people in her books usually have lots of drama in their lives. If you’re looking for literary fiction, I wouldn’t recommend her books. Escapism–yes!

That’s not to say she isn’t a serious writer; she has an MFA from the University of Iowa Writer’s Workshop. I’ve heard her speak and she said that when she was getting her MFA, her instructors told her to “write what she knows”! She did just that and was highly successful. She is a full-time island resident and supports lots of local organizations/charities.

Resident Alien on Netflix. Watched the last show of the last season. We usually are not into sci fi but that series was excellent. So very funny at times. Alan Tudyk was great and loved the native Ute feel that was throughout.

I finished the 2nd episode and I also am a fan! It cracks me up to see Jennifer Garner cooking in the kitchen because IRL she does tons of cooking/baking videos that are so entertaining - especially with her mom - I really enjoy her.

I am in the DC area. Drives me nuts when in show or movie the characters drive by every. Single. Monument. on their way somewhere. Watching Bones with my kids years ago, we kept a Capitol Count - how many times we saw the Capitol dome when the characters were driving. lol Or we’d be like, the Kennedy Center wouldn’t be on their left if they were driving into town.

And there are no mountains or oil drilling on Assateague Island (MD)!
