Is this series based on Chris Bohjalian’s book of the same name? I’m a fan of his books and have read The Lioness.
His book, “Skeletons at the Feast,” was written about the mother-in-law of one of my close friends. She was the young girl who managed to escape. The romantic relationship was totally fabricated, but a lot of the details were accurate. My friend is in my book club, and we got to talk to her MIL - how fascinating! She passed away just a few months later.
doesn’t appear so
" Taylor Sheridan is an American screenwriter, director, producer, and actor. He is the creator, showrunner, and writer of the Paramount+ espionage thriller Lioness, in which he also portrays Cody Spears."
I just started East of Eden on Netflix and am enjoying it 3 episodes
in. Never read the book.
I watch Doc (Season 1) on Netflix in the summer and liked it (although really, her bandaged head from a severe head injury but her hair perfect and styled coming out of the bandage? not realistic), so was looking forward to it on Fox this fall. I missed the first few weeks so looked to see if it was on Netflix expecting only a few episodes but the whole 2nd season is there. I started watching one day this week. I thought there would be 8-10 episodes but forgot it is not a streaming show but a real network series so 22 episodes! I kept watching and watching and it never ended! Finally finished it last night.
I like it but it is sort of General Hospital/Gray’s - many personal problems and interactions, medical miracles happening every day, revenge, even amnesia and flashbacks (but so far no evil twin impersonating a doctor).
To be clear, we’re now in season 3, which is 2 episodes in.
I’ve enjoyed the last two episodes of Ted Lasso much more than the rest of this season. One more to go. I wonder if there will be another season next year.
I will be shocked if it’s not renewed
I liked season one, but season two is chock full of relationships and some unrealistic medical situations. However my husband is away for two weeks so not only am I watching shows he would not like, but actually binging one after the other, which is a real treat.
Me too!
We just got HBO/Max and I watched Mare of Easttown. Jean Smart, mentioned upstream, was Mare’s (Kate Winslet) mom. Loved the show, thought it was really well done.
On Netflix? I only see two seasons.
Netflix got a two year deal to show the series. As I said upthread, it’s a network TV show airing on FOX. If Netflix gets more seasons, it won’t be until after the current season ends. For now, new episodes air on FOX on Tuesdays and are available on hulu the following day.
I watched two episodes of the new East of Eden series on Netflix. the acting is excellent but it’s a little too depressing for me. I’ll find something else, hopefully with many episodes and several seasons.
Listen to the audio book (or read it). It’s a classic for a good reason! Such a great epic story.
Try the 1981 mini series. That’s what first hooked me. 3 parts that covers the whole story.
I read the book long ago and really enjoy Steinbeck’s writing. As I wrote, the cast of this production is excellent. Just too gloomy for me right now.
No wonder I’m confused. The first season was only 10 episodes, so was surprised when they released 22 all at once. Guess I can try to catch up on season THREE on Fox.
Doc is also on Prime, but not free. I use my shipping credits to buy seasons. I think the episodes appear on Prime shortly after they air on Fox, but one can pre-pay for a season worth. At least that’s what I did previously.
For whatever reason, I couldn’t get past episode 17 yesterday, some kind of glitch. If not for this thread, I would’ve assumed that was the last episode of the season.
I just discovered and binged Plur1bus! Amazing show. I also just realized there’s a discussion thread on it and I’m working my way through. Can’t wait till next season!
