I absolutely hate all forms of political lampoonry.

The only public figure I absolutely adore, salute and idolize is ===

NETAJI SUBSHASH CHANDRA BOSE.

Jai Hind.
Rest of you follow suite.

Just imagine a million soldiers marching together, singing “Kadam kadam badhaye jaa”!! That, my friends, is what political power is all about. That, friends, is what patriotism is all about.

I will support anything that is NOT bjp or remotely a bjp supporting party.

Just imagine a billion people without bjp singing “jana gana mana” exhibiting solidarity and secular principles that reflects everything that india is and reflects everything that indians stand for. That, my friends, is what peaceful coexistence is all about. That, friends, is what India is all about.

and before we go any further into it - words of caution

views exhibited on this threads are personal opinions reflecting a population of a democratic country. As should be in a democracy, every person has a right to his/her opinion and warrants enough respect from other people - if they would like their views to be respected. Lets keep this discussion healthy and non-personal.

Hehe… they won’t unless you use methods to bypass the censoring of swearwords… anyone who participates in this “discussion” knows how fragile this topic is. And now bye for an hour; I’m doing a massive reformat of my harddrive, I mean my PC’s harddrive.

And as parties go, I don’t like any of them. I’m not apolitical or apathetic, but as shjanama said on The post, it’s very frustrating to talk about Indian politics. I lean towards the right but I was kinda happy BJP got out of power. I guess because in my heart of hearts I never really liked their deviation from secularism, all that chest thumping about hindu rashtra, all the support Narendra Modi received. And then there’s congress. They’re dondering. Chose between BJP and congress? Which is the lesser evil? I’d rather cast a negative ballot if it wasn’t for that i’m still 17 and they still don’t let you do that.

But I have a feeling better things will come with our generation =) It just concerns me it’s all very well to be educated people sitting here, but do we connect with rural India.

Hmmm. So Pakistan would nuke us just like that. What wonderfully sensible foreign policy. Somehow, I don’t think that its a very strong possibility.
I mean we all know that Israel has nukes (so what if they haven’t declared them yet…but are they just going to drop them on Palestine? I think not. Hmmm not the strongest example that I could have come up with but yeah well, maybe you get the gist.)

I do not beleive in Nuclear deterrance. We should have signed the Non Proliferation Treaty and the CTBT.

WHAT THE HELL?!??! NOT IN ANY DAY DONT SIGN THAT GODDAMN PILE OF ****.

See, nukes aren’t military weapons. They are political ones. The status of being a nuclear power is far more than being able to destroy your enemy’s base in a flash of a second. It’s a statement. And India is 100% right in not signing that treaty.

That CTBT thing is nothing but a conspiracy to subdue India and all other developing nations. Why is the only country which has ever actually used a nuclear bomb trying to curb its spread? Does it have any respect for any country’s sovereignty? Just look at how they “invaded the mound” of Iraq on their own whim, claiming they were there to find if Iraq has WMDs. I say, shouldn’t India just invade the secret military outfits of USA, claiming THEY have nukes as well?

This is ridiculous. No country deserves to be a US puppet.

Yeah merc you make a very good point. Particularly about the US puppet thing. Reeks of ‘Big Brother is watching you’
Hmmm I still don’t like the nukes but oh well- I’ll deal with it.

But some moronic (is that a word?) countries (Kuwait et al - sorry if someone’s a Kuwaiti here!) willingly subject themselves to US puppetry… they’ll find out in 50 years when all their oil is over. :D

I think we have bigger threats than outside nukes and that is our changing ideologies. In the 70s, some of the southern states banned hindi and currently we have a whole generation of southerners who dont speak hindi! I believe that the same thing is happening right now in terms of religious polarization.

Being a gujju, it was disheartening to see so many highly educated people supporting killing of innocent infants during the riots. It was also not a pleasing site when people were driving their sonatas and citys to loot minority owned shops (if you havent seen these pictures, maybe you were too young at that time to read newspapers or watch tv!)

What I am afraid of is that whatever has started in 1992 will have long term ramification on India and will just give a boost to many of the separatist groups (that exists in over 15 of the 30 states). I believe that these are bigger problems than the problem of being nuked by other people. Because, in the global world that we live in, I agree with merc that every country uses nukes as political weapons but unfortunately that dont hold true for disenchanted people from our own country!

No, this is all just the B@#@*(% viewpoint of the present “powers-that-be.” In 30 years, all of the current politicians, bureaucrats and officials, infact the whole of the current “grownup” generation will be replaced by us. Currently, hardly anyone of our generation believes in the orthodox ideas that exist today. When we grow up and take India in our hands, you’ll see how such things as religious hostility, separatism etc. will vanish automatically…
