Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, etc. 2025 edition

We were hoping for some airfare sales, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. D1’s family and I are going to Portugal again this summer. I was hoping to score a discounted business fare on the way back.
I did get a 50% off gift certificate at a spa I like.
I have a xmas list from my kids - earrings, shoes, sweaters, backpack, socks. Going to be busy this Friday.

Appreciate the reminder on the streaming services! I just cancelled our Hulu/Disney which was last year’s offer at $2.99; caught it just before automatically going to $12.99. I’m not sure if I feel like a new subscription at $4.99. We have Max because we get HBO through our cable plan (Cox), and Prime through my Amazon membership. And I’m paying $7.99/month for Netflix. There are a handful of shows I might like on some of the other services but not really worth subscribing just for that.

If anyone is interested in minimal customized leather wallet & other items, Open Sea Leather in chinatown is having Black Friday special, “BLKFRIDAY” discount code for 30% off order mailed to you. We’ve gotten items from them and really like their things. Free shipping throughout US

website is osleather.com

I’ve been keeping an eye on NewEgg’s price for my 2025 H&R Block tax software and it just went to half price today ($29.99). Amazon is still $59.99.

Amazon introduced a gift card sale at midnight PST, giving a ~20% discount below sticker prices at many merchants.

These types of discounts on Instacart gift cards have been rare since Costco stopped offering them. The secondary market rate is currently only a 3% discount due to lack of available discounted gift cards (arbitrage opportunity). ~30% of available Instacart gift cards have been purchased so far… in the first hour of the deal going online, 4x $100 of them by me. ~60% of available Door Dash gift cards have been purchased.

I also see a 3 x 40% off of $75 offer in Instacart, which can be stacked with the gift cards above. Instacart uses sticker prices at Walmart without increase and permits purchasing non-grocery, retail items. If Walmart prices on Instacart get updated to reflect today’s Black Friday changes, then one could get Walmart’s Black Friday deals at ~half of listed BF price (so long as cart is no more than $75).

I can’t find any discount on Instacart. Was it a Lightning Deal?

The discounted gift cards likely sold out in the first 3 hours. Door Dash is also sold out. You can see % that remain of the available discounted gift cards at Black Friday Deals 2025 | Amazon.com . Select filtered by gift cards in the left tab.

Finished all my Amazon shopping and will get 8% back on my Amazon VISA for using No Rush shipping. In my experience, they sometimes rush it anyway.

Not planned but the way it worked out I did my small business shopping today - hope that counts!

A local estate sale

A local record store

A local leisure apparel store

A local small ethnic market

2 different ETSY purchases

Also fyi - I had never seen this before - I was able to purchase an ETSY gift card at my Kroger - that will be a stocking stuffer

We decided to pass on Black Friday. It’s just too hectic. Tomorrow is Small Business Saturday, and we will go to a few different local places where we have purchased great gifts in the past. We are shopping local except for one thing I want that just isn’t anywhere local…a new silicone mat for my kitchen sink.

Bought some rice gift boxes from The Rice Factory. The boxes have free shipping to the people I wanted them sent to. I also bought a 50% off jacket from Lole and a leather custom handmade card case from osleather.com @30%.

Got gift cards at local grocery chain @50% off (stood in line 90 minutes and talked to someone I went to HS with 50 years ago & we had a nice chat).

If anyone sees any very good ad-free streaming deals (for any streaming service), please post. I like binge watching shows but not enough to sit through advertisements. I was going to resubscribe to Hulu and I’m willing to pay more than the ad-supported price but $14.99 is too much.

As you implied, the steep discounts tend to be for ad-supported streaming. Ad free streaming offers are more limited. Paramount has a $2.99/month deal for 2 months BF deal that can be selected as either ad-free or ad-supported. However, Paramount also has codes for free ~1 month trials that can be ad-free each 1-2 months, outside of Black Friday.

Another option is to choose smaller streaming services that don’t have an ad supported option, so discounted price is by default ad free. An example is Apple+, which has a $5.99/month BF deal, Starz for $1 per month, or most of the $1 to $3 per month BF deals listed at Roku .

Gift cards for 50% off?? What kind/type??

Our local grocery chain has in market restaurants they’re trying to promote, so they sold $50 gift cards, buy one, get 2nd one free. Limit $250 purchases per customer. I’m happy to support as they are a great community partner and their merchandise and restaurants are great. They sold out in a few hours but it was a great deal while supplies were available.
