This thread is just for future, current, and former Blair students and parents. Just to talk about anything and everything Blair.

I got accepted as a junior for the Class of '12. My dad just sent out the enrollment papers and the first check today. I am very excited !!

Is Blair methodist? I actually looked at Blair and it looks really nice. I believe bamagirl might be going there too?

Looked as in viewbook, I have not actually visited Blair.

Boarding school review says their denomination is Presbyterian, but religion is not a big part of the school at all.(from what I have heard) And good luck with your search for schools.

Congratulations Hubbard! My son is completing his 4th year there, and they have been very good 4 years.

Be sure to take advantage of all the opportunities you will have! Feel free to ask me questions or send me a private message.

Blair is especially strong as a community, with students and faculty getting to know each other in the classroom, on the playing fields and in other areas.

Blair used to have a strong affiliation with the Presbyterian church, and I think most Trustees were Presbyterian ministers. Today there is some affiliation, but it is not very strong. When we looked at schools 5 years ago, the religious component at Blair was not as strong as it was at Episcopal schools [Blair Academy - About Blair](http://www.blair.edu/About_Blair/ab_spiritual_life.shtm)

I might be going to Blair! I’m looking forward to revisit day. Anyone going on the 5th?

Thank You, Burb Parent! I do have one question for you. Upper-classman boy’s dorms are they nice? Large? On my visit there I saw a freshman dorm which does not help me out because I will not be staying there.

and Bamagirl I am going to the re-visit day on the 9th not the 5th

The upper-class boy’s dorms are East (mix of 10th & 11th grades), Mason and Freeman. Either Mason or Freeman is reserved for 12th graders and PG’s. http://www.blair.edu/Campus_Contact/cam_map.shtm

The dorms are nice, but I don’t think they are exceptional. The girls have it made if they get into Annie’s Hall with its beautiful lounge and air conditioning. If you saw a freshman dorm, you probably saw a room in Insley which is typical.

I’ll send you a pm with a few more details.

I love blair. I am going to add it to my list next year. It has everything I look for in a school.

Do you have to be religious to go there?

Do they have summer interviews?

Blair is not religious at all. When I visited, I found no religious ties whatsoever. I think they have chapel, but it’s more of a meeting rather than something to do with religion.

Blair is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. You can’t go wrong by attending.

It looks really nice.

The only problem will be getting down to NJ for a visit to Blair, Peddie, and Lville. I may try and take a friday off from school and interview at Blair on Friday and Peddie and Lville on Saturday (since they are so close) or vice versa. Do you think I should fly down or drive down? They are like 5-6 hours away. haha

where do you live?

From a financial standpoint, a round trip-ticket from New Hampshire to Allentown, PA (the closest airport to Blair) would be $260. Multiply that times two and your transportation cost is $520. If you were driving from Concord to Blairstown in a car that gets 22 miles per gallon (the national average for passenger cars) using New Hampshire’s current gas prices, you would spend approximately $40 on gas.

From a time standpoint, the total flying time from Manchester to Allentown would be about two hours. Average in layovers, baggage claim, travel to airport, and going through security, and you’re up to six total hours of travel time depending on how far away you live from the airport. Driving from Concord to Blairstown would take you about six hours.

I think you have your answer.

Woah. I didn’t think you would give me a full analysis. haha. but thanks!!! Now I just have to get my parents to drive me. haha.

does anybody know id there are single rooms available for first year sophomore students?

If you are a boy, I know there are some singles in Insley which in made up of 9th & 10th graders. There might be some singles in East, but I don’t know for sure. East has 10th & 11th graders. There also might be singles in Flightdeck.

If you are a girl, then I’m sorry. I don’t know anything about the girl’s dorms. Why not contact Admissions to get a definitive answer.

When I went to the Blair open house, we peeked inside flightdeck, and it was sooo cool! I have never seen a dorm like it.

@ Burb Parent

I am a boy. I did ask admissions, but I did not get a response yet. I always think it is good to get an outside perspective. Also, I did not receive a dorm preference form yet, and I do not think I will until July.

@sallygirl

What did you like about the Blair dorms? It probably doesn’t matter to me considering it was probably a girls dorm.
