Phew!!!
Good heavens, @KKmama , it is astonishing how many strange conditions can afflict us! Varicose veins in the bladder?!? Who knew!
@Consolation - it sucks to be female. Pregnancy and “natural birth” (prolonged labor) can lead to a lot of complications later in life. Ever heard of pelvic congestion? I was gobsmacked that varicose veins could be some place other than legs.
@BunsenBurner 57 hours of labor for the first and 40 for the second is gonna do some damage!
@Consolation My doctor is amazed by the bizarre stress related illnesses I can come up with. Stress can cause bladder and uterine post menopausal bleeding.
@BunsenBurner , I feel the same way. For those who believe in God, it makes sense that it’s a “he.” If a woman created the world, she would have done some things differently, I think.
@kelsmom
Instead we get that wonderful verse in Genesis condemning us to painful childbirth.
And some would argue that the verse about desiring men is a curse as well…
@KKmama I know, right? I’m sorry about the apple already!
Hemorrhoids are varicose veins.
For what it is worth, about 25 years ago I went in for a physical exam in order to get a life insurance policy. During the exam a small amount of blood was detected in my urine. They called it “Microscopic Hematuria”. I then went through a whole suite of tests (including a cystoscopy) but the cause could not be found. Since then, every year during my physical exams they detect the same hematuria but so far the cause remains a mystery. And, yes, the insurance company refused to write the policy in spite of my doctor writing to them to say I was fine. So I guess I saved 25 years worth of premium payments.
Just got back from the urologist office, saw the nurse practitioner. She did the procedure where they take a camera into your bladder. That came our fine. There is still some blood in my urine, which to me has looked clear for over a week, to check cells. After that, they don’t know. She thinks because I had some achy-ness, I possibly could have passed a very small stone, or it was the ibuprofen I took. Discussed outlier reasons.
She wants to see me back in 4 months if everything seems ok. So, it sounds like everything is fine! Which is wonderful news, but it’s frustrating for me to not have an exact cause.
Thanks for all the support!
If you were to google for some extended time, you’d probably come up with a long list of “possible” causes. But there’s a limit to how much we can freak ourselves out with Dr Google-- and in the end, we still need a doc to translate our case. You get a good doctor and work with him or her.
But I’m really posting now to say, it always amazes me how women have to talke to other women to learn more about what affects what. Without this networking, so manay things remain incompletely understood. We do need to talk to each other.
You’re getting the right sorts of attention, conmama. You aren’t ignoring this. You did have the tests run. Best to you.
Glad to hear the doc ruled some things out and isn’t overly concerned. Good idea to keep an eye on it with a 4 month check up.
Good Friday news!
Glad to hear the good news, @conmama.
@jrm815, I had the same experience…microscopic blood in my urine over several years. My dr was concerned and I had a variety of procedures (CT scan, cystoscopy, etc.) and they found a cyst on my kidney. Couldn’t tell if it was cancerous or not and recommended my kidney be removed as a biopsy wasn’t possible due to the cyst’s location. After a second opinion, where I was told cancer was a 50/50 possibility and that the doctor would advise his wife/mother, etc. to proceed with surgery, I relented. Turns out my cyst was benign and I live with one kidney.
I still have microscopic amounts of blood in my urine and have been told that there are people who simply do. While I was never able to see the blood myself, so my case is different from @conmama’s, it’s good to know that it can be completely normal for some people.
@conmama, I’m sure you’ll follow up in 4 months but I hope this is the end of your saga. Perhaps people with Microscopic Hematuria can occasionally see it and it is normal for you too.
I have to say the procedure where they put a camera in my bladder was absolutely painless! I didn’t even feel it going in. Ironically, the part that felt like a Pap smear is when they put the numbing cream inside. So for anyone who has to have it done (at least females), don’t worry.
Collage I think I am one of those people. Periodically doctor would say, “We need to get to the bottom of this issue with blood in your urine.” They didn’t find anything. Some years I have a little, some none. I think I just have very fragile blood vessels, since I bruise very easily.
^^glad it’s not something that seems to worry you.
Haven’t had any for several years, so I’m not worried. I was worried about other issues, but the colonoscopy results left me very relieved!
