Blood in my urine.

Bladder cancer is one of the slowest growing. Not to worry so much.

OP, for now, you’ve done the sensible tests. See the urologist, make sure you tell him/her about the high Ibuprofen use for 10 days.

When I got my cystoscopies, they let me watch the screen.

Probably the aspirin or other pain reliever that you were taking.

My DH had blood in his urine off and on for a year or two. They did tests and never found anything. Called it hematuria of unknown origin. It went away and never came back. I think it is possible that the NSAIDs were causing it. Are you on any other kind of blood thinners?

Both ibu and aspirin can cause some internal bleeding.

If your doc was concerned about cancer, at this point, she would have mentioned further tests or to call her. Sounds like not kidney stones, unless you passed it already.

Let me say that I hate these Friday med fears. All my kidney stones flared on a Fri or Sat.

Negative CT=good news

The test results said no kidney stones. It also said Hermaturia of unknown origin. Can’t wait to get to the urologist, but I can breathe a little easier.

Conmama, glad to hear that your results were good.

You know while you shouldn’t ignore symptoms, you should try to not fear them. Hard to do, I know! A symptom is just that - one thing out of the ordinary. Our bodies get lots of “out of the ordinary” moments!

I recently heard that when you Google a symptom search “symptom, benign” - so “blood in urine, benign” - because then the info you will get will be focused on conditions that are more benign - which is more than likely what you have. Otherwise you can keep yourself up at night!!!

@conmama, you asked if a CT scan would have revealed cancer, if there was any. The honest answer is that there are some things that are too small for a CT to reveal. I personally have–and had–malignancies that did not show up on a CT scan.

At the same time, it is highly unlikely that you have cancer. The best that you can do is not borrow trouble, and not freak out until you have something to freak out about!

It is a very good thing that you acted promptly when you experienced symptoms. You’ll be fine.

@consolation, how were your malignancies found if not by a CT?

@conmama I know that PET scans are very good at detecting the smallest of malignancies. I had one after I had melanoma, to see if there was anything that could not be detected manually.

I’m sorry, but I don’t think it’s helpful to the OP to keep harping on the possibility that she has cancer. Cancer is far from the most likely explanation here. In my experience, it isn’t helpful to prepare for a bad diagnosis in advance, and it’s ESPECIALLY unhelpful when it’s unlikely that there WILL be a bad diagnosis. Conmama needs a cystoscopy. She doesn’t need speculation.

@conmama, happy to hear the good news! And I agree with @CIEE83! So many reasonable explanations that are do not relate to a serious problem.

@CIEE83 She asked a direct question about scans. You think I should lie to her? That may be your idea of a kindness, but it’s not mine. If she didn’t want to know, presumably she wouldn’t have asked.

@conmama , most of my original stuff was found by CT scan. One tiny met was found by the surgeon, manually, and removed. More recently, I had an MRI that revealed a similar tiny met and two enlarged lymph nodes. None of them were detected by prior CT scans, although the radiologist who read the MRI indicated that she could now see the nodes when reviewing the prior scan.

IMHO it is essential, as I said above to not borrow trouble and not freak out in advance. To me, that does not equate with being ill-informed. But we are all different.

I agree, @Consolation. While most of the time, it will probably be something simple, some of the time - as you know all too well - it is something far from simple. Being aware of what others have experienced allows us to advocate for our own health from the standpoint of knowing that just because a doctor didn’t find anything doesn’t necessarily mean everything is hunky-dory. If my doctor had said that my urine test came back normal so I shouldn’t worry, I would have insisted on additional tests to figure out why it happened. I would do so because I know people who have had bigger problems that weren’t easily diagnosed. It’s not about scaring people; it’s about sharing experiences and maybe learning from them.

None of your comments have bothered me in the least. Others experiences are invaluable. I’m quite proactive in my healthcare. I go for 2nd and 3rd opinions now. They have caught misdiagnosed issues.

So, I’m waiting on a call from the oncologist for an appt. my doc had to make a referral. I’m partial to female docs when it comes to my private parts, and found a doc I’d like to see.

One good piece of news, maybe who knows, is that I’ve hardly seen any blood today. 7 straight days of it, then llast night it seemed to be light and today my urine seems normal. How weird is that. I can’t wait to get to the doc.

@conmama Did you mean urologist in your post #55? From what I’ve read, there is no indication of cancer yet but you said you were waiting on a call from the oncologist.

^^ Yes, I wondered the same. I hope whoever you will see, you don’t have to wait long for an appt!

A few years ago I had blood drops after urinating; turned out to be varicose veins in my bladder. Occasionally I have blood in my urine now, and was diagnosed with a spastic (irritable) bladder. Blood is now a reminder to de-stress.

Sorry everyone, I meant urologist.
