Boarding School Swimming

If I did Junior Olympics, am top 30 for all the events I did in NJ, will I have a really good chance to get into schools like Phillips Andover, or Phillips Exeter?

Would depend on whether you are a good fit, can handle the academics, and whether they need swimmers that year.

ok

Do you have multiple AAA or AAAA cuts in events the school’s swim? If so, then absolutely swimming will help but being admitted requires that you are well rounded like mentioned above.

If you plan to continue with this, you should also be sure that the school has the program to support you. This isn’t simply a matter of facilities and coach (and/or elite club team swimming out of the school’s facility), but a schedule that will allow you to train most of the year, do doubles, etc. AND that leaves you enough time and energy to handle the other obligations that the school has. Have you looked at Peddie or is that too close to home?

You can also look at this website to see how your times compare to times from last season’s dual meets and the championship meet: http://www.nepssa.org/

Hi @sword140 , Andover has a great site where you can see the top 20 best times for a particular event. Here is the link: http://www.andoveraquatics.net/ . You can compare your times with the recent best times and see where you fall. If your times are within the top 20, most likely you could be an asset to the team. (Not sure if Exeter has something similar.) The coaches at both schools are excellent, and many of their top swimmers do continue on to either Division I or Division III swimming in college. The YMCA in Andover has a year round program, but you would need to make arrangements with another swimmer who is a day student to get rides if you want to practice year round. Andover does have a pool with open swim times, and if you are committed, you could practice there . Both schools also offer Water Polo, and many of their top swimmers play polo in the off season to keep in shape.
Have you taken the SSATs?
Best of luck!
