It does not require a pressure cooker to get to that temperature. My understanding is that a pressure cooker is just faster. I used to can stuff all the time, using glass jars and modern 2-part metal lids. Depending on the size of the jar and the contents, typically 10-15 minutes in a boiling water bath will do it.

But canning aside, I would find it very surprising that one person could carry TWO of these bombs, much less place two of them in garbage cans that close together without someone noticing. It seems likely to me that there would either be two people involved, or there would be a nearby assembly point that would enable a single person to make two trips.

Actually, the whole idea of them being in garbage cans strikes me as unlikely. I think that people would definitely notice someone putting a backpack in the garbage, whereas in a crowd a person could take off a backpack, put it down next to their feet by a building, and after a few minutes move away undetected.

The guy in the photo is little more than a boy. He does have a rather different reaction that could be a sign that he has been near an explosion before. VillageMom, I try to avoid the nutcase clan these days after spending years reading their 9/11 carp. Keep your blood pressure in line by reading a romance novel or something :).

Do you think the conspiracy theorists are mentally unbalanced or just collosal *******s (are we allowed to curse here?)?

I’m convinced there is some narcissism involved. They must get off on feeling like they know something the rest of us are too dumb to see. They know the real deal. Aren’t they clever? We’re all just so gullible to believe the news reports.

Have you ever heard their explanations for where the passengers on the planes on 9/11 went to? Or what happened to the Sandy Hook children? I just don’t know how they explain eye witnesses.

Sure, maybe sometimes there is more to a situation than we know. Maybe there’s more to JFK’s assassination. I’m not a fan of how Ruby Ridge went down. But good golly, sometimes bad people do bad stuff.

Well, there’s the answer to my cursing question. I didn’t type those ****s. ;)

You’re so right. I can not afford any higher of a blood pressure this pregnancy. I just get so mad at what seems very insulting to the victims to me. I’m happy to tolerate a wide range of viewpoints. Left of center? Right of center? Sure, everybody’s coming at it with sincerity and their own perspectives.

But those who claim that these horrors didn’t even happen?? grrr

VillageMom, one of the worst conspiracy theorists I’ve heard of is a professor from Minnesota, who has been claiming for years that Sen. Paul Wellstone’s plane was brought down by a cell phone signal. His arguments/explanations are ridiculous. I don’t know what possesses these people. It must be a form of mental illness. Calling jym???

That means if you use a word and discover it’s been substituted with ****, you should edit your post to get rid of the asterisks.

“Doesn’t seem right, does it. That’s why I was asking too.”

Now that I look at it one more time, it is a little strange. Everyone else body language is in distress. And there is another person with the black and white knapsack also that does not seem to be bothered.

What I found truly offense was people promoting 9/11 conspiracies. Rose O’Donnell and Jessie Ventura come to mind as two who made very offensive comments.

jym, whatever might be going on now (and who knows because CNN and the AP are clearly faux news), I can say that after 9/11 there were constant bomb scare and unattended package evacuations in Manhattan. For literally months life was disrupted in that way every day, so I bet the people of Boston and elsewhere will have the same experiences. God bless them.

Yes, I remember even our kids’ elementary school had bomb scares called in and we had to evacuate and wait in the hot sun until we were all cleared to return to the classrooms. Sometimes ALL PUBLIC schools had to be evacuated because a threat, disrupting the education for hundreds of thousands of kids. Fortunately no one was hurt, but education WAS disrupted. H’s secure federal office building also had to be evacuated a few times during the height of the scares for bomb threats. <sigh> It’s tough and disruptive, but authorities tend to err on the side of caution, especially after something as awful as recent events.</sigh>

Apparently, some idiot phoned in a bomb threat, and that’s why the federal courthouse is being evacuated. Nothing to do with any suspect being (or not being) in custody.

From what I’ve seen, for this, MSNBC has actually has the most reliable coverage. I’ve never said that before. I generally see them as liberal entertainment, just as Fox is conservative entertainment.

Read somewhere else just now that if they had a person in custody that they would bring him to that Federal courthouse. If that is correct they might want to keep word of an arrest (if there was one) quiet so as not to have any possible problem at the courthouse. Just conjecturing.

And NYmomof2- thats not my specialty area, so can’t really answer your question. Sorry :(

I don’t see why it should be incriminating that a young man (not dark skinned either, what is it with having to say “dark skinned” every time something happens?) would be running from a blast. If you look at even the first frame of the sequence, 2 little girls and other young adults are also running, and by the third frame everyone who can stand is running away from there. The only (able) ones who are not are the ones beginning to deal with injured people who had been right next to them and the injured are likely to be the people they came there with. Young adults have fast reaction times, and young single adults are the ones most likely to be at such an event alone. Maybe this guy did something & maybe he didn’t, but I sure would not be in a hurry to charge him for having run from a bomb blast!
