Bombing hits BostonMarathon

CNBC reports that the suspect is “in serious condition”.

Public safety exception is so they can try to obtain information of immediate value, meaning any other threat now. It doesn’t mean they won’t read him his rights, just that they’re holding off because of an imminent threat to safety.

The capture is terrific news for our intelligence understanding and for reducing the idiot conspiracies like Obama did this so he can take away our guns or something as nutty.

I’d bet Arax and the other Armenian markets - Sevan, Massis, etc. - are going to be very, very busy in the next few days.

He is entitled to a trial like anyone else. However, I would be more than willing to risk breaching his rights and losing the use of any statements in trial he might make about the case, to get useful information. He is not going to be walking free with the preponderance of evidence they have on him. It might be a matter of whether or not the death penalty would be on the table or not, and I would think that is worth trading for useful information.

I think he will talk. He’s really more of an American kid than anything else. Not so the older one. But this one , I think won’t sit tight. It does not seem to me that he is as deeply entrenched as his brother was and others who have made it into a life advocation. This seems to me to be a weak individual with a strong big brother figure, and this young man just did not have the moral fibre to resist getting involved in something so evil and hurtful. He’s dangerous for that reason alone, but i don’t get the sense that he is of the same ilk as his brother might have been. JMO.

I’m not sure what you’re saying.

It’s really too early to know. We have no idea what we don’t know about this apprehended suspect. I am hoping that they will be able to question and get information from him but who knows what his medical condition will allow–all of this could well be moot if he’s only conscious briefly and then dies. If anyone can do anything, Mass General sounds like a good place to patch him up. The homeowner who peeled back the boat cover was pretty brave to take the actions he did–scary stuff!

“I think he will talk. He’s really more of an American kid than anything else. Not so the older one. But this one , I think won’t sit tight”

Exactly. If only one of them had to be captured alive, this was the best outcome of the two possible ones.

It might have been a mistake not to read him his Miranda warning. If the police do not believe there are any other terrorists out there, there may not be a public safety concern and thus, no basis to claim the exception. On the other hand, the evidence him is so extensive that it does not matter whether any confession or statements me makes are thrown out for not being given his Miranda warnings.

The public safety exception COULD be if he or brother planted other explosives that could harm others. It’s hard to know what he and brother did, as they seemed pretty callous about harming innocents.

Fine. As a presumably sane and rational person, I trust that you do understand that as a practical matter there is exactly zero possibility that the CIA or the black helicopters or anybody else is going to secretly spirit away this guy to a secret prison? Given, you know, that he was very publicly arrested and that his present whereabouts are publicly known to several hundred million people?

Let’s say the police start interrogating him without having read him his Miranda warnings and all of a sudden he remembers he has the right to remain silent and to counsel. If he says he wants to speak with his attorney and not say anything, the interrogation must end otherwise any statements he makes will be excluded from court.

Good point.

With their history, I think it makes sense to believe they well could have planted other explosives, as they were strewing them all over the place last night and had some elsewhere as well. I’m sure the authorities are proceeding VERY carefully and deliberately.

I am just throwing this out there. Didn’t he just receive his citizenship in the last year or two? Is there a possibility that his citizenship will be revoked because of all that has transpired? Moreover, if it turns out that he has been working with for foreign organisation or group, could such things happen?

Any thoughts on the father who says he is heading to the US to ‘seek justice’ because his sons were supposedly framed by somebody?

I feel bad for the medical people who have to take care of this scumbag. They’ve spent the past 4 days patching his victims up and now they have to take care of him. I, for one, hope he spills his guts, then dies from his wounds.

And what if his citizenship were revoked? It wouldn’t affect his constitutional right to a trial. He could be deported, but I can’t imagine that anyone would want to do that rather than trying and convicting him here and keeping him in prison for the rest of his life.

Apparently someone took a photo of the dead one’s body at the morgue. It’s gruesome. I just hope he died with a lot of pain.

Why would would he be deported after his citizensihp is revoked. He will then be classified as enemy combatant, no?

I heard on the radio that the homeowner with the boat noticed blood on the tarp, and looked under the tarp and saw the guy. I wonder why the bomber didn’t shoot him? He had a gun, because he shot at police later.

If citizenship can be revoked for voting in a foreign election, this is definitely the grounds for revocation. I hope he does not get deported. On the other hand, Mr Putin will make sure there is a spot for him reserved in one of the uranium-mining gulags.
