Why are so many so eager for this to be homegrown? Will the victims be less dead or maimed? Does it matter that major Hassan and Timothy McVeigh were homegrown? That the 9/11 monsters weren’t?

The dead included an 8-year-old boy, according to two law enforcement sources briefed on the investigation. Childrens Hospital reported that those treated there included a 9-year-old girl, a 7-year-old boy, a 12-year-old, and a 2-year-old.

How terrible.

Zoosermom: I’m not eager for anything. I’m old though, and I remember terrible things that happened before 9/11. Thus it bothers me that people think a tactic - terrorizing people - is the sole and exclusive province of foreigners. That’s all I’m saying.

They played that footage over and over again on a loop and you do see him being hit by debris. He (the runner) was probably injured but did not die.

Countering the immediate Saudi rumors with the weight of fact that’s usually homegrown is not the same thing as “eager”.

It’s sort of offensive to claim that anyone is "eager " for anything. That’s a loaded word.

The terrible things said on 9/11 turned out to be true. I was there and my husband was a first responder. I just don’t think it matters unless it turns out to be some new radicalized group like Mormon Tabernacle Choir or something. If it is Islamic terrorists or white supremacists, then law enforcement knows a lot about the, and it isn’t terribly surprising within the horror.

Read the posts garland. That is what the posts sounded like to me. And offensive.

Sorry, Zoos. I just don’t see that. I really don’t. And I’m at a loss as to in what way anyone would be “eager” for that. Why, for heaven’s sake? When something doesn’t make sense, I question it.

I, for my self, am eager that there be no rushes to judgment. i’ll stand by that eagerness.

zoosermom: I think it matters who did this. Sorry if that offends you.

zoosermom sorry to hear about your experience. Sometimes “talking” on discussion forums help ease the tension and stress we are going through especially when things are very close to use. I think by merely discussing the recent events and analyzing the happenings it helps digest in one way or another. Don’t think it shows us being “eager” for it to be anything at all. If it does, our apologies. I am sure this all affects you greatly.

Well, we don’t need to be at each other.

This is truly horrible. However, since Oklahoma, Columbine, 911, Aurora, and sandy Hook I have learned that I cannot watch these events unfold. It does nothing to help me or others to be drawn into the horrors of these acts by minute by minute reporting of questionable facts.

It does nothing but create more chaos and hard feelings and horror within.

It is best for me to gather myself and say prayers.

My thoughts are with those that have lost. My thoughts are with those who tried to help.

Ognopgod, how incredibly kind. Thank you.

Snowdog, I think it matters to actually know. For sure.

". I just hope people don’t rush to judgment before the facts are in."

I agree. But of course, the second the media gets a whiff of something, they will put it out on the front page as fact.

I’m sure they have many possibilities to consider, including the fact that this is very typical of the type of bombing attack that people in the Middle East have to endure, often. We are not used to these sorts of attacks that they have to deal with regularly. And though this is not typical of the type of stunt that North Korea likes to pull, today is the day we believed that something was going to happen. I was reading someone who I think was a South Korean intelligence officer, saying that North Korea would do something sneaky, that wouldn’t be easily traced to them.

But who knows. I trust that our experts will find out the truth.

The older man in the widely seen video clip, the first runner seen falling to the ground, is a 78-year old marathoner from the Seattle area, according to the Seattle Times. Thankfully, all he suffered was a scraped knee, he was quoted as saying.

My D was at the marathon about half a mile from the blast. She had to walk back to her dorm avoiding mass transit. It took a long time as the roads were blocked by police and they could not pass. It was sureal to see all the police, swat teams etc… She was frightened, I did not know about it at first because we were out walking the dog. I called her roomates mother it was hard until I heard officially. Phone contact was spotty. D in DC was afraid because I work in a hospital in Boston and for her sister. A number of friends/colleagues were running or watching and they are all safe. so relieved. I am numb.
Slithytove i wonder if I know whom you were talking about.

The thing was played up for three days as a moral panic that the Aryan Brotherhood was shooting down judges left and right in Texas. It looks like it was now some guy who had a beef because they went after him for petty theft.

My problem is when does the press come back and clean up all the false information they put out there? It seems like never.

Maybe its Homegrown. Maybe its ELF. Maybe its Ruby Ridge. Maybe its New Black Panthers. Maybe its the Saudi guy. Maybe its a youtube trailer. We’ll actually have an idea in 2 days time so why are we speculating now when 90% of the guesses will be wrong? Because there is air time to fill.

So sorry to read about yet another violent attack on innocents who were not injuring anyone. It is so sad and tragic. I hate how the media jumps in and publicizes so much info that may later turn our wrong. My thoughts and prayers for all those affected.

busdriver, I’ve been worrying about something happening today in Korea, too.

Lake Washington, a 78-year-old marathoner? I am very impressed. Thank God he was not injured by the explosion.

^^Yes, NYMom. I have had a terrible feeling about today, but I thought it was going to be that something awful had happened on the other side of the world, not in Boston.

That’s just what I was thinking about a 78 year old marathoner doing the Boston. Wow!

Older S in Boston. At the race last year, not this year. Many of his friends ran today and all are accounted for. He is quite somber and horrified as we all are.

We are supposed to be touring BU on Wednesday for S2. A good idea to postpone?? We live close enough to reschedule for another time. Think that would be best.

I am so very glad to hear about all of you and your loved ones being safe tonight.
