DD left for Manchester today. She volunteered to work a 12-hour shift scanning tickets tomorrow which allows her free admission to Bonnaroo. Her car was packed with a tent, sleeping bag, coolers, lanterns, a grill, etc. I would rather drive dull pencils through both eyes than hang out in a hot field with 80,000 other folks who won’t be showering for several days. Were I younger, maybe it would be appealing. My bed, air conditioning, and running water makes me happy now. :)

My boys went together last year and loved it. They wanted to go again but work got in the way. She can shampoo her hair and take a modified shower in the bathroom sinks, and there are fountains, so it’s not as bad as it sounds. I’m sure she’ll have a great time.

My son and his friends have gone for several years; this will be the first year they are missing. Traffic going in is halted to a complete stop; the kids can get out of the cars and wonder while waiting in bumper to bumper traffic!! Usually they leave as soon as the last band they want to hear plays to avoid more traffic.

The first year my son arrived home around 5:00am and went straight to his shower before hitting the bed until mid afternoon. Sunscreen, a hat and bug repellent is a must.

The kids have a blast!

My son drove down from NY last year in a 3 car caravan. They arrived in time to sit in the very long car line, but had the time of their lives. Would be leaving again tomorrow, but for his sister’s HS graduation on Friday. Oh well, next year!

Please tell me this is a rock concert and not a math workshop or SAT study session. :)

Apparently the Tennessee version of Woodstock?

Conyat and Cnp55, yes to both of you.

My son went with several friends a few years ago and also had a blast.

The wal-mart we use is right off the interstate, approximately 25 miles before Bonnaroo. It’s great fun to go and watch the 'Roonies stock up. I’ll be there today. Our favorite was a shopping cart FILLED with beer… and a bag of apples.

Some of the clothes and hair styles are amazing. But they are going to fry in the heat and sun, plus there are dust warnings because of the drought conditions. Tell your kids to bring some bandanas.

I just checked the website. Beer is restricted to 3 cases per person with a 1.75L limit on hard liquor. Hmmm, 72 cans of beer in 4 days… can you imagine??

I must say, I hope many many people go to Bonnaroo, as that means oodles of business for my mom at the restaurant where she works. So, parents, demand that your kids get out of the house to spend a week in Tennessee not showering out of the house.

Perhaps I am being a bit selfish. Nah.

The lineup sounds amazing- but I do not do festivals where you can’t get away from humanity.
( D is going camping- but not to Bonnaroo)
I was thinking of going to Lollapolooza, where the lineup isn’t quite as interesting, but dont have the bucks to rent a cabana on the lakeshore in grant park- thumbs up to hotel rooms though

Im surprised they let people bring in liquor- must be a nightmare for the aid staff.
The things I have gone to- they want to collect your money in the beer garden, so you can’t even bring in water sometimes.

I thought I’d chime in…I stopped going to Bonnaroo when it became popular (2005 was my last year). It is one of the best planned festivals I’ve ever seen and I still think of it very fondly. However, I think the seedy element was getting stronger with every year and there are other festivals with excellent line ups that I’d rather attend. The shift to indie rock bands was not a good one, in my opinion. I suspect that shift brought in people unfamiliar with this sort of festival.

I hate to say it, but alcohol is the least of the things to worry about as far as illegal substances are concerned at Bonnaroo. You can keep up with the events on [The Tennessean website](http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=ENTERTAINMENT0104). Just a little while ago, they posted this information:
The first year, I think there were two arrests, maybe a few more the next. These days, they’re arresting dozens of people before they even hit the gates. I have no doubt that it is still a lot of fun, but it is a very different scene these days.
