Remember the campy, James Bond-ish Hai Karate mens cologne commercials? Guy was literally fighting women off.
Guys in their cool Qiana (nylon, probably flammable) shirts, often depicting a sunset mural and purchased at Chess King.
Heaven Scent perfume.
My mother liked Evening in Paris perfume.
Beatles bubble gum.
Poor boy T-shirts and fishnet stockings.
Anything Carnaby Street style (like Twiggy)
Dr. SCholl’s shoes and Candie’s heels. I desperately wanted both but never got them
@surfcity I loved my Dr Scholl’s ! Navy blue strap on my pair- I empathize with your never having a pair. ?
I had both Dr. Scholl’s sandals and Candies heels.
Such fun memories! I had forgotten the Dr Scholl’s and Candies, but I had both - as well as earth shoes and Capezios.
I was trying to think of the Lipsmackers! We had the poor man’s Sun-In - lemon juice.
And Hawaiian Tropic with no sunscreen in it. I still can smell that and Coppertone (SPF 4). We used to try to see if we could get as dark as the Coppertone bottle.
I had to save my money to buy the beautiful Blooming Colors eyeshadow compact and bright blue mascara. Can you imagine?!
I loved Clairol Herbal Essence. I can still smell it and would buy it again even though it was mostly detergent.
I wore drugstore perfumes like night blooming jasmine and muguet des bois. Doused myself with Jean Nate body splash, which probably smelled like bug spray.
Swimmers might also remember this ghastly shampoo called Green Out that looked like Hershey’s syrup and smelled like moth balls. It worked, though.
Loved my Dr Scholls! I believe I had the navy ones as well. And I saved and saved to buy a navy leather John Romain handbag. Just had to have it.
Had Candies too, but that was in college for going to the discos.
When my husband was in college, a sales woman for L’eggs, lived in his apartment complex. She might have been all of 30 years old, but he and his cousin drooled over her and called her the “Legs” lady!
I had bangs in high school that would flip up while drying. I had a helmet hair dryer that I would put on my desk and sit under. It was a lady bug and I remember we purchased it at the Sear’s Outlet. I used some kind of pink paper tape to tape my bangs down while under the dryer. Just googled it, it was Scotch Hair Set Tape.
Loved Herbal Essence shampoo. Had both the navy Dr. Scholl’s and Candies as well as white painters pants.
My low rise bell bottom jeans were my favorite. And when I say low rise, I mean low rise
Favorite stores to shop were 5-7-9 Shop and Merry-Go-Round.
I just remembered I loved making and wearing the maxi dresses that were made from the material that had the elastic stuff on the top. Just had to cut the material, sew one seam all the way up and you had a new dress!
Huckapoo shirts
Love’s Baby Soft Jasmine
Puca beads
I had a large Bonne Bell grape lipsmacker that came attached to a cord so I could tangle it from my neck. Grape was my favorite but I still buy Dr. Pepper lipsmackers (but they don’t seem to be called Bonne Bell anymore).
My college roommate and I loved the blue Tickle deodorant. Years after it stopped being available in stores we came across a stash (maybe 6 or 8) in a small corner store in Chicago and we bought all of it.
@atomom, did anybody wear underwear back then? Pretty sure I didn’t even own a pair!
I loved Blooming Colors eye shadow!
And I also had very low bell bottoms (we called them a@@ crackers). I wore them with midriff tips.
And hot pants …
I was a tomboy, but was required to wear dresses or skirts to elementary school. I absolutely loved my dickies turtlenecks; my brother also wore them. The only dress my mother could get me to wear without a fight was a shirtdress; I must have had several colors.
When I asked for a John Romaine purse, as a friend had one, my mother ran out and purchased it maybe the very same day. She was so happy I wanted something feminine; she herself was a bit of a fashionista.
Ahhhh yes, discos! Fun times.
I remember Yardley Pot o’ Gloss lip gloss and cream eyeshadows.
When I was a freshman in college (76-77), brown nail polish was in. My favorite was Iced Walnut. Tell me how I can remember that and not what I had for lunch today?
O.J.'s Beauty Lotion. I think it was mostly alcohol.
Earthborn (I think) Apricot scented shampoo.
Sounds like good-smelling hair was important to a lot of us!
We used to mix iodine and Johnson’s baby oil, slather that all over, and recline on a lawn chair holding a large piece of tinfoil beneath our necks to get our faces nicely roasted.
I set my hair in huge pink plastic juice-can rollers to make make it bouncy full. I also used that pink tape, @snowball, to keep my bangs straight.
Dittos jeans, especially with the saddleback. OP shorts. Bain de Soleil sun tan gel. Rainbow deck flip flops, polo shirts with the collar popped.
@musicmom1215, I can hear the jingle for that “Earthborn natural Ph balanced shampoo.”
