You beat me to it! I was obsessed with Dittos pants and OP shorts. Also begged my mom for Famolares and Mushroom shoes. In high school I desperately wanted a pair of Sherry Topsiders. What about Hang Ten clothes? I wanted those clothes but my mom never let me buy name brands. Also loved Esprit but it was always “too expensive.”
Also Jean Nate body splash, Bonnie Bell, and this roll-on lip gloss but I don’t remember the brand.
I remember a lot of painter pants, Izod shirts, preppy “yoke” sweaters with turtlenecks and corduroy pants (all colors) or khakis, gold knot earrings, and Annie Hall getups in college (‘76-‘80). We also spent a lot of time “looking good” (foxy) for class, saving the school tee-shirts/jeans for the weekend. I also cut a lot of feathered ‘dos during my years in the dorm. (My stint at beauty school was a real boon in those hair-conscious times.) One of the favorites was the longish “pageboy” with the front all curled away from the face in a tube “roll” on each side. So stylish. And lots of Eagles, Bee Gees, and Hall and Oates keeping us company in the background.
I remember taking in bell bottom jeans to make them as low cut as possible. I also remember adding metal studs down the seams.
I also had a lot of peasant tops and peasant skirts.
I also remember “wrapping” my hair to make it straight…like one huge curler on top of the head and the rest of the hair was wrapped around the head and then sleep on it.
Those were all in the teen years.
In college, I remember wanting every Laura Ashley dress. I also recall having many kinds of clogs. Or maybe that was a little past college?
Huck-a-poo shirts were the height of fashion. I even wore one for my HS graduation picture (class of ;76).
Suede platform shoes in different colors. One Saturday, my 4 best friends and I got together and realized that we had all, separately and without discussing it, bought the same pair of shoes. Mine were navy blue and none of us had the same color.
Jeans with two zippers in front
Levi’s 501s
Jams shorts
Cringing as I write… I and my bridesmaids wore Gunne Sax dresses at my wedding ?
Embroidered blue chambray shirts
And way back in elementary school, red track shoes with three white stripes and ID bracelets.
Lisa Frank stickers
Jellies shoes
Jordache jeans
Ooh La La Sassoon commercials
Avon Perfume pins
Hardy Boys show
Freshen Up gum
After school TV specials
Rabbit’s foot keychains
Mikey “He likes it, he likes it”
The distinctive smell of Nozema
Etc.
I have a long list of these and my other favorite memories thanks to Pinterest. It’s like my own photo album of childhood memories that I’ve collected over the years. Love it and highly recommend to those who appreciate visual memories!
What I remember about the “Avon Lady” was the little case of sampler lipsticks. They were tiny and all the tubes were white… Eventually, they became more sanitary and they used these little blister packs that had lipstick in them.
Early product memory advertised on the Lawrence Welk Show - Rose Milk Skin Care Cream. When I visited my grandmother, she had some and as a tiny kid, I did think it smelled like roses but it felt like squirted Crisco.
A trend in Florida was a “hippy” sandal we called kahunas with a straw base. Also, atrociously ugly sandals made out of treads off of old tires. They were cool beachwear, but on a hot day they smelled like burnt rubber. I can’t imagine how this was a thing, but it was.
Anybody remember attacking clothes with a Bedazzler? I always wanted one because of the commercials.
How about an odd Christmas gift of a dangerous device to cut wine bottle tops so you could make drippy candleholders out of them?
Macrame plant hangers with beads or shells in them.
There was a sun visor fad using pieces of Budweiser cans and red-white-and blue yarn. I was so proud of my Bud visor. I bet that was the Bicentennial patriotic year.
And streaking! I lived near a college and it was a regular thing during parades to have streakers sprint across the road. It must have involved a lot of alcohol.
For my curly, frizzy hair-UNCURL-don’t remember what the active ingredient was, but I’m lucky my hair didn’t break off after using. Moved on to wrapping, followed by 25 years of daily blow drying, until I finally went natural.
I remember when I was in law school, my mother shipped me an entire carton of Vidal Sassoon shampoo and conditioner. It was the only product I would use.
Hip hugger jeans (especially with a wide belt), short shorts and tube tops. Can’t get better than that!
All of which horrified my mom but I got all my cousin’s hand-me-downs so she couldn’t complain too much. Fond memories.
Loved Hang Ten clothing.
I remember our dresses being SUPER short. Somehow we learned how to wear them without showing too much too often…you sat down straight.
