Book for ASTR 2110 and 2120

I’m taking ASTR 2110 this semester and plan on taking ASTR 2120 on Spring. We are going to be using ‘Foundations of Astrophysics’ in 2110 and I’m not sure if I should buy the book or just rent it.
So my question really is, do you guys know if they they use the same book for both 2110 and 2120?
If they do, I might as well just buy the book instead of renting it to avoid the hassle of having to rent again and to save a little money.

I’d email the prof. It might change from year to year, particularly if there is a change in profs.

First, both classes use the same text.

I’ve taken both those classes. Barbara Ryden, who wrote the book, has a lot of textbooks under her belt and I have found myself using her other resources as I continue in astronomy. She’s really good.

That’s the key question: are you an astro or astro/phys major? It is always nice to have a repertoire of references.

With all that said, you will NOT be assigned problems out of the book AND the professors usually give you enough in powerpoints (that are also posted online) to complete the problem sets.

This assumes you are having Skrutskie 1st sem and Sarazin 2nd sem. I bought the book to keep. It’s solid.
