Bookclub food for "Stiff"

Put on your thinking caps, I’m stumped. I’m hosting our bookclub in January and we are discussing “Stiff-the Curious Lives of Human Cadavers” by Mary Roach. Its a good read, witty and entertaining, very enlightening, seriously… She handles a touchy subject respectfully and with a great deal of humor. Anyway, I am at a loss of food to serve. I’m tired of the whole basic fingerfoods and would like to come up with something different.

I am not above doing theme based foods, but dont want to stray into “gross” body parts Halloweenie territory but a subtle nod to the books contents might be fun (think sugar cookies cut with a bone cookie cutter). Help me brain storm here, just spit out your ideas…

I am the one that served Chocolate pie at a discussion of " The Help"…

Your bookgroup sounds fun.
The most we’ve done is have regional foods that are tangentially connected to the book.
( we also do potlucks unless we are meeting at a coffee shop/ restaurant)
I haven’t read it, although my oldest reads all her books.
I dont have any ideas though, except for sandwiches, as it seems that Ive read a few police procedurals where the coroner is doing an autopsy at the same time they are eating their lunch.

“finger” sandwiches??

Jello mold in the shape of a head, with cut up fruits for features?

By the way: LOVED that book! LOVE that author!!!

If you liked Stiff—also try Bonk.

Day of the dead sugar skulls?

Traditionally the skull molds are filled with white sugar mixed with moistened meringue powder, but you can also used wilton candy melts.

Also try Gulp, her new book!! All about food :)

LOL!!! I want to come to your book club meetings!

I read Gulp and thought it was more about the GI tract than it was about food. Like, what happens inside our bodies when we eat, and what happens when we poop. I was fascinated to learn that the nerves in the anus are among the most sensitive in the body.

In the bone-like vein, how about endive leaves arranged on a plate with a bit of cream cheese on each, topped with a stripe of red pepper jelly.

How about Death by Chocolate: [Death By Chocolate III Recipe - Allrecipes.com](Death By Chocolate Trifle Recipe)

I can’t cook but I LOVED that book. My husband’s pulmonary specialist recommended it. I hoped she wasn’t trying to tell us something.
