Boston area schools for the B plus student

Does anyone have any schools to recommend in the Boston area for the B plus student, particularly with lower than the usual $50,000 price tag? Must have an undergrad Business program. Thanks so much.

Is there a school in the Boston area with a lower than $50,000 price tag? My son just toured Northeastern. They have a good business program and they have a co-op program that lets the students earn some money to help with school.

Don’t know about the $$ but Babson, Northeastern and Endicott come to mind.

not sure of price, but Bentley

Northeastern co-ops are great, and the students do earn good money during co-op. (It takes 5 years total, but only 8 semesters of tuition). But cost of living in Boston in dorms or apartments will eat up much of the earnings.

Try Becker, Stonehill, Merrimack.

DS attends Northeastern; he was a solid B-B+ student and rec’d a fairly good merit/financial aid package which helped reduced costs so they are well below $50K. NEU is right on that $50K price ticket (along with Babson, Bentley - and might as well throw Boston Univ in the picture too).

Babson has a good reputation as a business school.

just wanted to add for the OP’s benefit - we chose Northeastern primarily for their co-op program, not just the work experiences but also the accompanying practical business and life skills that DS has been acquiring along the way - BEFORE graduating (DS also has Asperger’s; he just started his third co-op last month, each co-op is 6 months long ;))

My B+ student was admitted EA at NEU and received merit scholarship of $6000/semester. That said, NEU had the highest cost (before factoring in merit) of any of his schools.

Many B+ students from our HS attend Bentley and like it. Perhaps explore further afield and look at Bryant in Providence RI?

I also know a couple of kids at Suffolk University who really like it, but not sure of the business school reputation.

Bryant is actually north of Providence, even closer to Boston. Easy road trip, about 40 minutes. Very good business school, direct competitor to Bentley and Babson (the Three B’s). Many apply to all three.

My Bryant finance degree has served me well.

Second on Stonehill

Why don’t we ever hear anything on CC about U Mass Boston? Anyone know? It’s in Boston, and - for the OP - it has an undergrad business major.

I don’t mean to recommend it. I don’t know anything about it except that it exists and it is in Boston (100 Morrissey Blvd, Boston, MA 02125). Annual tuition and fees for an OOS student are about $26K.

Yes, my workplace: UMass Boston. Current annual price tag around $14K in-state, $26K OOS (no dorms, though, so you have to add housing cost to that). We have an undergrad business program, and I’d say we are a safety for a typical B+ student.

I don’t often mention UMass Boston on CC, because I’m here as a parent not a marketer, and I want to keep it that way. But it does sometimes surprise me how very far under the radar we fly.

EDIT: Cross-posted w/MidwestMom…

Ha! Now I know it exists, it is in Boston, nightchef works there, and it has no dorms. I think the “no dorms” may be a key reason it is under the radar here on CC. I

Most major cities have some state schools around and in it. There is Mass College for Liberal Arts, I believe. Again, it may not have dorm facilities. I know that in NYC, there are a number of commuter and limited housing state schools and CUNYs that are priced below $50K. Cooper Union is free. So is Webb Institute.

I think that you don’t really get the Boston Student experience at UMass Boston due to its location.

You don’t get the full college experience at schools that have no dorms and are mainly commuter schools.

Mass College of Liberal Arts is in North Adams, not Boston.
