Boston College class of 2024 (EDI, EDII, RD) applicants

@anastasiabh Congratulations! Would you mind sharing your stats if you’re comfortable doing so?

Board is quiet…Only 1 update thus far?..go figure?

of course. I actually had a lower GPA, weighted was 3.95 (my school doesn’t send out unweighted GPA). SAT 1470 ACT 33. EC’s: 200+ hours volunteering, work experience, animal rights club founder, varsity athlete

@anastasiabh Thank you!

My son was accepted into MCAS tonight ED2. We are all thrilled of course! His SAT was 1470 and 3.8 unweighted GPA. Good EC’s and letters of rec. This is my first time posting but I wanted to share because I’m well aware of the extra boost of hope it might give some that haven’t heard yet and are comparing stats. Best of luck everyone!

Can report a Houston gal who I met a few weeks ago was accepted tonight - ED2 MCAS. Frankly had a thin resume vis a vis others I have seen. 32 ACT. No sibling or parent connection to BC. However, she comes from a top independent K-12 so I’m guessing Admissions thinks she can do the work.

Just trying to throw something out there for public comment and consumption- My limited observations, and let me preface it by saying, it is not scientific nor a representative sampling, but as some of the stats listed here are below the stats referenced for ED1 acceptances and below hysterical averages associated with acceptance to BC and CSOM in particular, this sparked a question - How competitive was each applicant pool relative to each other? Did ED 1 get a higher accomplished applicant or ED2. I would be interested in seeing a breakdown of the stats graph for ED1, ED2 and RD. For me, I would expect the average accept stats for ED2 to be higher than ED1 or RD, for the simple reason presumably, many of the applicants in ED2 were Ivy and top 25 applicants who did not get into their ED or ER schools.

Just bcos someone applied to a top 25 school doesn’t mean that they had above medians stats for that school. Many take an ED gamble and hope to win the lottery with below average stats (‘but I have great essay and rec from a politicican’, and are rejected. (Think about it, critically.)

Seems like only acceptances so far for ED2. Congrats to all!

I got into MCAS ED 2!!!

This is proof that you cannot let these averages scare you, apply anyway! You never know what can happen.

@bbfan1927 I had a similar observation when reading through these posts…there aren’t many of them, but I see what you mean.

I think what’s happening with BC admissions has been happening at other schools as well that offer ED 1 and ED 2. Or even just ED 1. I’m sure I’m not telling you anything you don’t already know, but I think there is a bit of a reward for applicants that are willing to commit and therefore we are seeing some applicants get in with scores lower than what we might expect to see. I’m sure admissions is confident these students will be successful or they wouldn’t admit them.

I would expect the RD stats to be the most brutal and we will see a lot of kids with stats on the high end get denied or put on the waitlist because there just aren’t enough spots for all of the qualified candidates.

This is happening all over. I think it’s just the new norm. I’m not crazy about it. My student didn’t go ED anywhere and it makes it harder to get in some schools that way. BC is a top choice…I hope there are spots left!

@1234student2020 Can you clarify? Earlier you said your SAT was 1360. Is the 1300 above a typo? Thank you.

My sat was a 1300, not 1360. Sorry for any confusion.

@collegemomjam…FYI - a 1300 just hit the lottery -…YES- Many ED1’s with much stronger stats were deferred and or denied. Thinking ED 2 class was not as rigorous as ED1. Yes, RD will be interesting for sure. 1400 spots to fill with 26k apps. BC has a housing shortage, so we won’t over accept. I’m thinking BC accepts 5000 for RD (historical yield apprx 28%) Makes the overall admit rate 21%. with a total yield around 40%.

I completely agree with @bbfan1927 observations. But there is no way BC Admissions will break out ED1s vs ED2s scores until they have a few years of data (if they choose to do so at all). As @collegemomjam noted, ED2 was trying to pick off rejected Ivy League ED1s. It doesn’t appear to be what happened this year. The huge pool for RD will allow BC’s new Admissions director (in job 2nd yr now) to boost selectivity in rapid fashion. It’s a lever that can also improve BC’s rankings in college lists.
