My daughter got in. Private school in Northern NJ, one other classmate was accepted at well. Amazing night last night. Go Eagles!
My DS was deferred. 4.86 WGPA, 3.86 Unweighted. 11 AP’s. IB Stem program. Habitat volunteer. Taught VBS at our Church. Catholic. NJ. Straight A’s first quarter senior sent. ACT 32. But it was lumpy…35 and 34 in grammar and math - I think those were the categories. He is mildly dyslexic and just reads slow, reading was his only weaker score - took actual speed reading course. But he got A in AP English. Tennis. Marching Band. Jazz Band. alumnae rec letter. Very competitive public HS. Thought is BC essay was strong and different, he wrote literally 16 drafts…before he was happy with it.
anyone have any thoughts on regular decision pool…? Trying to decide if he should hold on, or do ED2 at a second choice. He really really really wanted BC. But ED everywhere has big difference in admittance rates. And if he were to not get into one of the 3 schools which are tied for 2nd place because he didn’t do ED2 and then also didn’t get out accepted RD at BC…well that would be even more traumatic.
@Maddy23. Im a current student here @ BC. Sorry to hear about your son’s deferment. A defer is not a reject- don’t get too discouraged., He has strong numbers, so hang in there. I would update the admissions office with next qt grades and continue to show interest. BC RD is going to be very competitive. You have some hard choices. Good luck.
According to @JTDBKD4, they had more applicants than expected which may explain some of the deferred responses. It could also mean that those deferrals have a decent chance in the RD round.
@Maddy23 which college at BC did he apply to?
@maddy23. Because ED is new this year it’s hard to know how deferred applicants will fare. With EA, they accepted lots of deferred kids. Someone posted that ED filled one third of the class, so still a lot of room. Perhaps your guidance counselor can check in and see if she can get any intel for you on the process overall as well as their impression of your S
@maddy23 Most schools don’t allow ED2 after ED1 deferral to RD. Does BC?
I was accepted for ED1 but I’m having trouble finding my financial aid package on the portal. Has anyone else found it? Please help!
I would say hedge your bets with ED2…this entire process has become so crazy. Hard to predict. I am waiting on ED1. If I am deferred, I will use ED2.
FYI. For students and parents. Maybe help you find other schools for your lists.

@privatebanker I think you might have mixed up the order based on the factbook. Although it is unclear whether or read from right to left or up and down, Notre Dame definitely isnt the number 1 cross admit and Harvard #4 on cross applicants. Page 36 if helpful to anyone

@swimchris. I never said they were in order, did I? It wasn’t formatting perfectly and I put the names listed and was going back and forth.
And not sure why you consistently look to criticize here if you don’t like the school, it’s ok. To each his own.
FYI.
I heard back from my top choice recently (ND) and unfortunately I didn’t get in. Now I am considering applying ED 2 to BC, as it is most likely my second choice. I have a fairly strong application while my test scores are a little low (1390 SAT). My grades are pretty good (about a 3.8, 4.2 weighted with six AP’s) I have excellent activities: 3 varsity sport captain, started multiple clubs, extensive volunteering… How helpful would going ED2 be to me? Any advice is appreciated.
If it’s your second choice sure why not. I wouldn’t say it’s not a shoe in at all.
However, you have a very good profile and should be proud of your achievements.
My only advice is to make sure your application matches the mission of the school itself. Highlight your strengths and interests as they relate to the bigger picture.
applied to BC RD…just got an email from BC asking if I would like to change my choice to ED2 instead of RD…is this typical?
I was going to apply ED2 to Tufts after being deferred by Cornell
…but I cannot give up on my dream school. I hope I don’t regret it…any advice?? I’m heartbroken!!
@Luckyjade2024. I would not recommend applying ED2 to any school if you are dreaming of Cornell. A deferral is not a rejection. If you are accepted ED2, you will need to withdraw your Cornell app. I would apply RD to your backup schools and update Cornell with any new information that could help your chances. Good luck!
@xyz123a Thank you for that. That is exactly what I am leaning towards. Hopefully it works out.
Luckyjade2024, I don’t want to be a Debbie Downer here, but isn’t it easier to get into ANY school in binding ED than either Early Action or Regular Decision? Did you apply Early Decision to Cornell and got deferred? I’m not sure how the dynamics work at Cornell. At BC, there will be strong applicants that got deferred from the Ivies, Notre Dame & Georgetown. Does this happen at Cornell, as well? Will you be facing an even stronger pool of competitors in RD at Cornell than you were in ED? (assuming you went ED). Can you ask your guidance counselor to help you parse this out?
Also, I am just a Mom…no connection to admissions anywhere, nor any particular expertise!
@LIAlum85 yes it is. this is why I am wavering in holding out for RD.
I applied ED to Cornell - deferred Human Ecology. The RD pool is around 2000 apps for that school
BC just sent and email asking if I want to change my RD application to ED2.
My second choices are Tufts, BC, Villanova, UVA, Notre Dame (none are a slam dunks) and trailing behind is Rochester
