Boston College class of 2024 (EDI, EDII, RD) applicants

Luckyjade, I guess you asked if anyone else got this email because you wanted to figure out if BC was giving you encouragement…or was this a mass email sent to all RD’s? Are there any posters out there who would know? Private Banker? Also, it’s easy to get caught up in the admissions process of matching up with the “Best” university. (case in point: I’m a mom and I’m on here, lol) . But, when I look at your indicated major of Human Ecology, I wonder if you should hone in on what school has the best program for that instead of which is the “best overall”?
It’s tough to know whether to play the ED2 card or not. Gather as much info as possible before you decide is my best advice!

I don’t know if it was a mass email to all RD applicants but it probably was. My child received that email as well.

@LIAlum85

So I want to major in Nutritional Science in Human Ecology. Tufts, and BU have similar but not exact programs.

the colleges that have similar programs are UDEL, Penn State, and there are a few others, that off as a minor…but these are all a big drop off from the top tier colleges.

I feel like I worked so hard for high SAT and GPA, all AP and honors courses. I also cannot see myself in a very large “party school”

That’s my predicament.

Yes, wondering what that email is all about. Also got the same type of email from Rochester.

Good luck to all! I want to pm someone and am trying to get my 15 posts/replies in. drag

I answered on the other thread and thought you have been deferred at BC. My apologies. There is no history or Intel that tells me if this was a standard offer to applications in hand or they saw something they liked. I wouldn’t offer anything worthwhile on that front.

My only observation is you shouldn’t ed2 anywhere unless you are comfortable, not knowing the Cornell outcome.

It does provide you with a difficult decision as RD is going to have many students applying with similar situations and strong profiles.

If tufts is clearly your 1B choice, perphaps narrow your decision set to Cornell and Tufts. It makes it less complicated.
Of course it makes it imperative to have other safety and match schools you really like in the mix as a solid and smart Plan B.

Thank you for your input. Cannot believe how being deferred can lead to so much second guessing …I thought I had it perfectly planned out.

Remember there is always rd and you will have options there too. Just make sure to rd only to places you will want to attend even if you consider safeties. Once you’re there it doesn’t matter. All are tough and all can be amazing.

Does Boston College even offer something close to Nutritional Science? If not, why BC?

btw: just to confuse you some more, if you are a NYS resident, Cornell also offers the Guaranteed Transfer program for some who are highly qualified, but just don’t make the RD cut for whatever reason.

BC…because I loved the campus, city, and culture (2nd college I looked at) before I decided on a major…so …really other than that …they do not have my major, That’s the problem. Not many schools do.

Ps NYS resident…GTO, I know about, but not too sure how I feel transferring after one year. I guess I can decide when I have other options to compare it to.

Thanks to everyone for all the advice. I am doing RD to Tufts…if it’s a struggle for me to decide ED2, then I shouldn’t do it.

I’m going to focus on Cornell and LOCI. All my RDs are submitted…plus I have some EAs coming back.

Good Luck to everyone!!! and Enjoy your Holidays. Hoping 2020 is a special year for all of us!

@Luckyjade2024 That’s an awesome decision.

What are your likely school choices. And flagships in there and do you have admissions in hand yet?

I want to track your journey now and I am a big fan of yours. ??

Plus it’s useful for future students and posters to help others.

@privatebanker Thank you private banker…

Questions: Should I email or mail my LOCI? (or both)
Should I send to head of admissions Cornell, as well as Human Ecology admissions ?

.
I have acceptances from low safeties -U Del and Providence (both have nutrition)

RD for nutrition or similar programs at Rochester, BU, Tufts, Bucknell, Lehigh, Notre Dame

EA - Chapel Hill, Northeastern, U MD, Penn State, U Miami

Nova & BC = don’t have the programs I’m looking for …so low on list.

ps…I just RD to Ithaca (just in case I get offered FYSA from Cornell)…then I can go there in the fall since both are in Ithaca. They also have Nutrition program and I could transfer credits.

Wow. Great list. PC is an underrated awesome school too.

There is not a school on your list that wouldn’t be great to attend. I’d go if I could use a time machine. Lol.

Email the LOCI. If you don’t know your regional AO. Call the school and ask. Get the email address as well and send it directly to them if at all possible.

Thank you!

I have corresponded in the past with human ecology admissions assistant director. I was going to her as well as director of admissions? or would that be redundant?

There is also a head of admissions for the entire University. (he is the person who signs off on acceptance/deferrals.)

or is the regional AO better to contact?

The general rule is to connect with the person who will be the one to know you and your file the best. They will be the first level endorsement and committee advocate etc. I’m not sure if it’s the ao in your major or a regional person at Cornell. They usually have to break it down to have a working knowledge of the various schools in a geographical area.

If you have all three you could certainly send one to each. They should be short and they should all be different and speaking to the role they have in the process. Imho.

The dean email should note something along the lines that you understand “they are managing a large organization” but “you wanted to thank them for the opportunity and perhaps place a name with file if it comes before them in the future“. And a sentence or two about the major or school as it relates to you.

The asst. dean of the major - admissions should be something relevant to that perspective.

The regional ao should be the one you update with specifics.

Thank them all and be yourself but short. It’s respectful of their time. In fact, you can say just that to the regional ao perhaps, “you want to be respectful of their time during this incredibly busy period ”. However “ I wanted to thank you for the opportunity to continue in this process by letting you know of my extreme interest in Cornell. I’ve been… Etc etc. that sort of thing. In your words and style of course.

Thank you so much!! I truly appreciate it.

as an aside, can we take the discussion of Cornell admissions to the Cornell thread and keep this focused on BC?

Can anyone chance me / tell me which school is the best for me?

I have a 4.5 gpa (top 4% of my school out of 500 students), 33 act, 1460 sat

I think I can say that I have solid leadership experiences (student council for three years, club president, in multiple club board throughout high school, and found an organization outside of school). as well as volunteer experiences

I want to apply to Carroll Econ but im not really confident in my stats

should I apply to Carroll Econ or arts&science econ and hope that I can transfer to carroll?

I’d really appreciate it!

transferring is extremely difficult, so if you really want CSOM, apply there. Female is likely a small plus factor for CSOM, as is AHANA. AP Calc?

Your numbers are in the sweet spot for BC, but with the new ED program, no one has the faintest guess on how that will impact RD. Your essay demonstrating fit to BC’s mission – service to others – will be key.

'Grats on Michigan. Was that Ross or Arts & Sciences? Michigan is not known for being generous with finaid…can you afford to pay sticker?

@bluebayou

thank you. I’ll apply to CSOM directly.

I got into UMich LSA political economy but Im more likely to not go there since im oos and I’ll have to pay about $25,000 with all the financial aids (from npc)
