Good luck to all BC RD applicants!

My senior got an email saying that they reviewed over 7,000 applicants for a presidential scholarship and only 18 received them. But stay tuned for your RD decision by April 1. So they were able to review all of those applications thoroughly enough for scholarship purposes but not for admission. It seems they are very concerned with yield protection and wait for a lot of their applicants to withdraw before notifying them. April is very late considering many kids received acceptances to other schools starting in October.

Just a few follow ups to your post

  1. BC typically releases RD results in early March.
  2. If application numbers stay on trend with the past few years, BC will receive around 35,000 (give or take) applications (ED1, ED2 and RD combined). Based on the information your senior received, 7,000 of those applications were considered for a Gabelli Scholarship.
  3. All applicants who want to be considered for a Gabelli Scholarship must submit their applications by 11/1 - even if they are applying RD. ED1 applicants are automatically considered for the scholarship since they have to apply by the 11/1 deadline. The remaining applications under consideration for a Gabelli Scholarship are applicants who are applying Regular Decision and submitted by 11/1 so they would be considered for the scholarship.
  4. Of the 7,000 applications that you are referring to in your post, a good number of them applied ED1 and found out in early December if they have been accepted/deferred/denied. I am not understanding your point about BC being concerned with yield protection in this situation.
  5. BC awards 18 Gabelli Scholarships each year. The Admissions Office identifies a “very small handful of select applicants” that they will consider for the scholarship - “finalists”. It is incredibly competitive. Those finalists are invited to BC for campus visits, interviews, etc. Of the finalists, 18 will be awarded a Gabelli Scholarship. The scholarships have not been awarded yet. BC is most likely just now getting ready to communicate to the very small pool of applicants that are finalists and to invite them to campus. If anything, BC is being very transparent with applicants by letting them know in early January if they are even under consideration for Gabelli. Other than Gabelli, BC doesn’t offer any merit awards so finding out this early can be helpful to applicants as they start to sort through their options.

just out of curiosity, if an RD applicant applied by 11/1 and is NOT being considered for Gabelli, will they still receive their decision early? my understanding is that those RD applicants who ARE in consideration for Gabelli have been notified that they are indeed accepted already (earlier than the typical RD timeframe of Mar-Apr).

In reading the email that was sent, notifying applicants they were not chosen for the scholarship, they still listed regular decision to be released by April 1st.

The only RD applicants who will find out early if they are accepted are those considered for Gabelli.

Hi, what are we thinking for RD release date? I see Early March mentioned above. Do we think end of this week?

I would think a bit later… everything I have seen still has the “by April 1” statement. Last year RD was released on March 21st, so probably sometime around the third week in March this year as well, but we would obviously love to see something sooner!

My best guess is the decisions will come out on March 20th based on past years and the fact that they seem to release RD decisions on Thursdays, but it would be amazing if the results were released tomorrow if they are ahead of schedule.

Just FYI I spoke to an admissions officer who told me they were aiming to release RD this year (2025 for class of 2029) on or before March 15th. Not sure if they’ll make their own deadline, but that’s what I was told! Good luck!
