Boston College Early Decision for Fall 2025 Admission

No one at his school with his stats has ever been deferred. Does anyone have encouraging stories about deferred to accepted?

So hard to see your kids hurting. Deferred does not mean no. My oldest is currently a sophomore at BC and the girl across the hall from her last year was originally deferred. I am a true believer in they end up where they are supposed to. My daughter was rejected from her top choice two years back and now realizes she’d be miserable there. So much growth to still come for these kiddos and so many post high school options. Good luck to you and your son. So hard to parent through this process. Lots of good options to come with stats like that.

We were given 3 years of guaranteed housing. How do we request the 4th year of housing?

You can’t. Most students are given three years of housing, with a few distinct exceptions, including nursing students and some students with high level stats for admission (Top 10%-ish of admittees). But, the vast majority of students get three years, with the required move-out year being junior year. I believe that are certain grounds for appeal, such as medical necessity, but unless there are extraordinary circumstances, your kid will be moving off campus his junior year. My kid is a current sophomore, as is getting ready to sign their lease for next year’s housing imminently. They’re actually pretty excited about it! Congrats!

Thank you for the clarification. I would like to join BC EMT so there is a lot of incentives to remain in on-campus housing, especially for EMT shifts during the evening hours.

You can try to appeal, but there are a lot of students who have activities requiring a lot of time on campus, and most don’t get four years of housing. Most students really love the year off campus, and some who get four years of housing still move off campus because all of their friends are moving off campus and they don’t want to miss out on the experience. That being said, you can certainly try to appeal but I believe that appeals are handled well down the road, ie, sometime during sophomore year prior to the housing lottery process.

I feel your anguish with this. My DD is deflated as well. Strong stats like your son and deferred. Makes no sense. I know things always work out but it still stings - a lot.

Have him send a letter of continuing interest and maybe some updates on grades, projects, awards, another letter of recommendation? Good luck :mending_heart:

Agree that deferred is not rejected. I know a current BC student who was deferred and then waitlisted, despite high stats, and is now a sophomore there. Hang in there.

Is there a regional AO that he could connect with or email?

this is a great idea - BC has a tool to identify your regional AO: Find Your Admission Counselor - Boston College

DD’s stats are at the top of the thread. Best wishes for class of 2030!

Did you withdraw your EA apps yet?

Yes, now withdraw other apps and decline any other admission offers. Also pay BC deposit. DD is doing so today.

Congrats to all who received good news yesterday. I read lots of comments on the thread for last year about an ED deferral turning into RD acceptance. The letter of continuing interest is the next step, and sending you positive thoughts.

You asked this twice in 12 hours of someone you don’t know? Oh my.

you dont. Most students are given 3 years housing only a small percentage get 4 years. They go off campus junior year and live in nearby apartments and then return to campus for senior year. Its not a big deal - biggest challenge is juggling apartments and subletting etc if they decide to go abroad for a semester junior year.

My daughter has a 3.85- 3.95 UW GPA, a 34 ACT SS, great extracurriculars and a moving essay.

My son is a junior in college and didn’t get any of his top choices, but he loves loves loves his school and wouldn’t trade it!

I think the person asking about withdrawing EA apps is more asking for advice than trying to pry. My son was admitted to BC ED last night, and I also wonder if withdrawing EA aps and paying the $500 deposit right now vs the 12/13 deadline stated in the admission letter would make any difference. Let’s be kind to each other. Thanks
