Boston College Waitlist 2024

@zaidria that seems like a good sign though!

I also got a call and an email. Hope I get off the waitlist!

@koameid If you don’t mind, could you share what was on the email and call? I have not received anything of the sort.

I turned in my financial aid documents a long time ago so I hope these calls are just about supporting documents

Has anyone heard any info about waitlist for the School of Nursing? that’s what I’m waiting on and I can’t find any info.

Just to add… I did not get an email like @koameid but when I got a call earlier today he also asked me where I stand, as in my interest in attending. Hopefully there will be a wave of students accepted off the WL soon. I wouldn’t be worried if you didn’t get a call because I think the main purpose was the financial aid documents. As long as you have demonstrated continued interest I think you should be good.

@privatebanker I don’t usually post and don’t mean to be discouraging but I do think they accepted a lot of people off of the waitlist during their first round. I got off along with one other person from my school, and I know that another local school had 3 waitlist admits. Anecdotal, sure, but NH is pretty close to Massachusetts and might be at a natural disadvantage, so other areas might have gotten more. My guess, (and that’s all it is) is that any further acceptances would be pretty limited to prime candidates who might be more interested- but of course, I can’t be sure.

If it’s any help, I had a 3.4W GPA, (3.7 after my freshman year), and a 34 ACT- sent a few LOCI that I kept relatively short focusing on accomplishments and my desire to go there. I also think MCAS candidates might have done a little better- I want to be a Poli Sci/Economics major. I went to a pretty elite public school in NH, and both my Dad and 2 uncles went to BC. I felt my EC’s were pretty good but not quite elite, and (while I can’t be sure how they felt) my essay was pretty good and focused on my struggles with ADHD.

While I didn’t get any aid at first, I appealed and got $23,000 in need-based grants, suggesting that they’re not necessarily short on cash. My bet would be they’re targeting public school kids with good test scores, but I’m not sure what they’d be doing if there are any more acceptances.

edit- just trying to clarify that all my evidence was anecdotal and that it should be taken with a large grain of salt

@eaglebound Congrats on getting off the WL! I also think that many students got off the WL before May, but I do believe at least a couple more students will be taken off the WL for many reasons. Firstly, they started taking off the WL before May. Secondly, they have called and emailed some of us to submit financial aid documents. Also, in a previous email that was sent out to all WL students it stated that the WL may be kept open well into the summer. The truth is that the pandemic has created an unusual situation. No one can predict whether students will decline admission or later on drop out due to financial reasons or due to the pandemic itself to be closer to family.

Also @eaglebound , if you don’t mind me asking… Could you tell us how you appealed in order to get more financial aid? I don’t qualify for the Pell grant and fear I won’t get much financial aid if I get off the WL. Thank you

@zaidria Yeah, I mean you aren’t wrong, but my bet is just that there aren’t gonna be a billion openings due to a relatively large first wave, (easily over 150 kids) so people should get excited about the school they deposited at. But again, I never expected in a billion years to get off, so hey, what do I know.

My family’s situation might be different than yours- I applied for financial aid because my family is decidedly middle class and can’t afford the full 78k, but we had around a 40k EFC. However, due to some property that my dad has, they assessed it at 70k, so we contacted them, (the guy will send you an email if you get accepted telling you that your aid is in) saying we felt that wasn’t near enough to our need and that I couldn’t afford to go at that number (which was true-my dad loves BC, but not $20K more than the school I deposited at). We also felt they assessed the property values incorrectly, so they asked us to find comps, which we did.

They gave us basically enough money to meet our financial needs.

If you’d like tips, all I can say is that you should make your need clear, offer them clear reasons to offer you aid, and give them comparisons from other colleges who also gave you aid. If you’re deposited at a similar institution, tell BC what aid you got from them. I tried to be extremely polite and make it extremely clear I’d enroll the second I got approved for more aid, which I then did. The whole process took around 3 days- not stunningly fun, but certainly not awful.

BC is pretty well known for aggressively focusing on home equity as an aid factor, so if you have a big house or a valuable piece of property, that will hurt you.

@eaglebound congrats! Your upward trend and strength in gpa, top school environment and boards are very compelling to me.

Good info on your school and the nearby students.

It’s still anecdotal and a guess for everyone. 30 70 150 or 200. Who knows.

I think in times of distress like we are living, people turn to their family for strength. As a legacy x3 you are part of that family. And I would be certain that the experience and understanding of the ethos and mission of the school came through in your essays and loci. You’ve earned your spot and enjoy it.

To the others waiting. As mentioned before, I can tell you first hand that the staff is hard at work right now looking over the numbers and candidates. Don’t fixate on the several posts regarding their acceptances as any harbinger of your fate.

This is a strange year for sure. So hang in there. However you should also spend time getting to know the school you committed to as well. I bet the more you look the more you may realize that perhaps it’s perfect for you.

Good luck to all. And social distance!
Lol.

@eaglebound How do you know the first wave was ‘easily over 150 kids’?

I am on the waitlist and have not herd anything back yet. I am an international student studying in a catholic high school in CT area and I was waitlisted from RD. I kept constant contact with my AO and the reply was often very fast. My high school advisor also reached out but got no reply. My SAT is 1540 and GPA is 4.3 in my school. I honestly think that by now if nothing pops up, it’s basically a rejection:(

@captiva2020 Completely anecdotally, but I do think the numbers probably hover around there. Again, my stats weren’t among the most elite on the waitlist, so I’m assuming they accepted more people- I also know of a lot of kids who got off, (I counted 15 in my area), and so 10x that seems like a logical calculation. However, again, I said it should be taken with a large grain of salt. I have no idea what the number actually is, just a mildly educated guess.

@privatebanker Thank you so much! Again, you’re totally right- these are strange times and anything could happen.

@Cartierboys I’m on the same page. My AO and I have been in contact and he even responded yesterday morning stating that they will be looking at possible waitlist movement over the next week. I haven’t received any phone call or sign which is a bit discouraging…

Oh mine did not even tell me that. The person said there are too much variables so there will be no exact dates for waitlist. I think Boston College already give a lot of waitlist spots out because a couple of my friends already got in.

Thanks for your quick response! Good luck and Congrats!

Hi guys! I just have a random question. My AO said he would reach out if there was an opening but I’m just curious as to how that works. Do all regional officers get a certain amount of spots to give or does it work another way?

DO all of y’all got calls? Cuz my number changed. I tried to Email them idk if they saw it.

I’d assume there would be some movement this week but idk… and congrats @eaglebound !!!

@crazymocha thank you very much!
