Boston College Waitlist 2024

How much do you guys think BCs yield rate will go down for RD? If it stays at 26-28% there will be no spots left. If it goes down to 20, there will be about 161 (I calculated this by using the 5,874 accepted and assuming the 1,000 ED spots have a 99% yield). I think anywhere from 15-25% is possible.

Does anyone think the pandemic going to help us with the waitlist?

It already has: BC expanded the waitlist pool from 5,000 to 6,500, which indicates that they are already thinking that there may be more people pulled off this year. Because of the economic implications of the virus, people who already thought BC was a strech economically might furthure be thwarted away from taking their offer. BC is generally a more expensive school so Corona is definitely going to make an impact, it just might not be as large as we think

What I don’t really understand is why Boston College’s waitlist is so large if they only plan to accept a maximum of 300 students off of it, realistically speaking. The same goes for most colleges. I just feel like placing that many students on the waitlist just gives them false hope.

Bcos BC has absolutely no idea how many will accept an offer off of the WL. Some students may choose to take a gap year, others might stay close to home due to the crisis, others might make other plans.

Protip: if you are prepared to immediately accept an offer, make sure you mention that in your LOCI.

Hey guys there was an update on the BC waitlist page on the website. That special opportunity available in late april was revealed:

“In late April, we will send you an email survey to assess your level of interest in attending Boston College.”

Based on other forums, this wasn’t a thing in previous years. Seems like they could be trying to assess who would be able to commit financially. I’m wondering if they are going to ask us something on the lines of “Are you willing to pay full tuition?”

Do you have the link?

My educated guess. No they will not ask for a financial commitment based on full pay versus aid. It’s not how they roll. Financially they are really fine.

It’s simply a huge waitlist and I think they are prioritizing resources against those most likely to attend.

Or it would be another full round of admissions work with 6000 files.

The BC admissions office used to occasionally post here in the past. They stopped a few years ago. But before they did, they did answer this question and stated that students accepted off the waitlist still get to apply for financial aid with the same “demonstrated need” criteria as students accepted in previous rounds.

Has anyone heard any news?

@crazymocha Nothing yet.

Here’s an interesting article that Sally Rubenstone wrote and posted today, titled:

“How (and When) Do Colleges Pick Students off the Waitlist?”

https://insights.collegeconfidential.com/how-are-students-picked-off-waitlist

I have to wonder what are considered “hypercompetive” colleges in this article? BC? Acceptance rates below 20% 10% ???

BC has an endowment of over 2.5 billion dollars so they don’t need to ask if you’re willing to pay full tuition. I feel like they are committed to paying full demonstrated need for students.

@alli3fire As my son has been accepted to 5 other schools, 3 of them claiming to be full need met I know that means different things to different schools. All were within shooting range, but at one point there was a 6K spread between 2 of them. So while the commitment might be there, the numbers may be drastically different. Regardless, you may be well right that they don’t ask if your’e willing to pay full tuition or take it into account on the waitlist.

Gosh I just want to know if I was accepted off of the waitlist already. I wrote a LOCI and at this point just praying enrollment is low due to corona so they pull more people off of the waitlist.

I also wrote a LOCI, but I’m wondering if I should do anything else? I know I could probably just email my admissions counselor, but I’m worried it’ll come off as annoying with their request to do everything through the portal. Also, I called to ask when decisions would be released, and they’ll start releasing the first set like two weeks after May 1.

Send them note to say you hope they are safe and healthy. That you are well and working hard to finish out the year.

Then tell them that your note that you want to restate that you are fully committed to attending and will be flexible as to whatever they decide to announce for fall.

Perhaps some short reflection of how you feel about a residential college experience now that you’ve done distance learning.

If you are like many others, you now see even more clearly, how being part of community means so much to learning.

It makes you even more aware of the privilege a BC opportunity would be and you intend to make a commitment to being a positive part of that community if you are selected.

Not long. Short and sweet.
