Thank you so much, this really helps.
Hi guys! I hope everyone is doing well during these crazy times… I just got an email from BC about a “virtual eagle eye campus visit” and I found it quite strange considering I’m on the WL. Not trying to speculate and I doubt it means anything, but did anyone else get this email?
My son just got it as well.
Nevermind! They sent out another email fixing their mistake… it was mistakenly sent out.
I did not recieve a correction email
@ohmyohmyohmy The email simply states that the previous email was for prospective students not the current senior high school class of 2020
Hm. I didn’t receive the virtual campus visit email at all.
I also got the email, I was so excited for a second lol
I’d be careful about sending something that could be perceived as ‘wasting their time’ or stating the obvious. All top colleges have an expectation that you will finish senior year strong. IMO, reach out again when you have new information to add, such as any senior year awards. Community awards from outside activities (before we all shut down). Or mid-term grades, if mostly A’s. (All ‘passes’ due to COVID are of no help.) Any time you have new information to add to your file is a good time to reach out.
If you have already sent in a LOCI AND BC is your top choice AND you would definitely attend if offered a spot off of the WL, ask your GC to call your Regional Rep. Your GC can address anything in your app that might have given the Adcoms pause. (Perhaps a not-so-strong letter of rec? Below average math score and applying to CSOM-Finance?)
Just my $0.02.
@bluebayou is correct in general.
However, this year is a bit different imho. Obviously there is a lot of uncertainty around choices all schools will make in the fall.
A commitment to attend regardless of how shakes out is a little different.
I don’t think that a paragraph that is short and sweet will send them over the edge.
In the end it’s only about the margins. Unfortunately there’s only so many spots. If you’re someone that’s on that thin edge, perhaps a thoughtful note and understanding that they may have to have a less than perfect start to fall classes may resonate.
It’s not a perfect science. Most successful waitlist experiences discuss well spaced and courteous updates. One right away and one a month or so later isn’t being too much. But add something meaningful. I would personally respond better to something demonstrating character and understanding of a school’s ethos more than an award.
I would also like it very polite and brief.
But to each his or her own.
Good luck!!
Ah, but here’s the opportunity to do both, and show-not-tell.
Agree on spaced-out. But the timing of your earlier post was not clear. I read it as sending another ‘polite and brief’ e-mail now, which is only a week or two after the LOCI (in response to #38). I apologize if I misread.
If my sibling got into BC and we have pretty much the exact same scores/grades/ECs and I got waitlisted, how can I increase my chances of attending in the fall?
I fully agree with privatebanker and bluebayou on the need to be brief your updates to the school.
A friend of mine worked in admissions at several top schools for years. When our son got waitlisted a few years back, she repeatedly drilled into me “only one page and only new material”.
She said that rehashing existing material, or including new letters of recommendation can do you more harm than good.
Hi everyone. I have a letter of recommendation from a person who knows me extremely well and can potentially strengthen my application for the waitlist process. Should I tell the person to send her letter of rec to BC? Also, should I just submit my LOCI through BC portal or should I also email my AO? If I should also email my AO, what should I include in the email? I appreciate your advice and suggestions very very much and I am so grateful that everyone on here is so supportive for one another. We are all in this together and I hope that we will all get off the waitlist.
@danny201609 They said they don’t recommend or consider new rec’s, so I wouldn’t. Also it’s fine if you email it to your AO as well as put it on the portal, the worst thing that could happen is they see it twice

While I truly believe in the above input I provided (#52), understand that none of us here are BC adcoms. You need to do what you feel is right for you.
Having said that, privatebanker and bluebayou do have a very good grasp on these kinds of things. It’s just that with this year being so different due to covid-19, it would be nice if a BC adcom would weigh in to describe their current situation and the plan they are executing.
@jpm50 I think BC is just as unsure about the next few months as we all are! All we can safely expect is more kids off the waitlist after May 1
The one 100 percent truism is that no one really knows what will help or not.
Everyone is an individual, including admissions readers and officers.
Someone may like the brief update and commitment to the school. One may think you’re wasting their time as mentioned.
It might be stack ranked and it might be subjective.
There is really no monolithic rule or singular ao personality.
The one thing for sure. In general, waitlists are definately used to help fill out institutional needs. Specific majors or schools, gender, cultural diversity and geography etc.
You ever know what it is they need to finish the mosaic.
This is key. In normal times, BC doesn’t touch the WL until May 1. (Some adcoms take time off in early April, others work on the transfer apps.)
But who knows what’s up this year. For example, UChicago has been making offers off of the WL for two weeks now. That is really abnormal for a top 10 Uni, but maybe that will become the new normal?
Georgia tech has already been taking people off of their waitlist as well. Weird times
