Thanks for the link…very good
on point!
When we visited last spring it was already up to 23% international, the highest of any college we visited. So qualified Americans are turned down because $$ counts most.
Full pay internationals provide much of the funding for need based grants for American students.
C24 rejected, which is not really surprising. 36 ACT, but UW gpa of 3.7 and barely cracking the top half of their class – BU was a reach. Plus, they applied for the audition-based acting program, so their chances were even smaller.
Luckily, C got into Oberlin today, which I think is a great fit school for them.
DS24 waitlisted: 3.93UW/12 APs (including senior year)/1560 SAT/Lots of volunteering, paid job, ECs (Eagle scout etc.); unlikely to join WL
Acceptances OOS : UMich(COE w/ 20K scholarship)/UW/UIUC/Purdue/UNC/CWRU; In-State: UCSB, CalPoly
Rejected: JHU (ED), UCLA, WashU
Waitlist: UCSD, UCD
Waiting on: UCB, Duke
This is indeed a bizarre admissions season NYMag article
Wow! OOS at UNC is amazing. Your child has great options.
The endowment must not earn interest.
D24 rejected. 3.8UW/4.2W, TO, showed demonstrated interest, 3-sport athlete (volleyball, alpine skiing, tennis), honors society, volunteering, some other standard ECs. Solid essays and recs. So far she has only been accepted to safety schools on her list.
Waitlist for kinesiology. BU was a reach with a 3.86UW/4.2W and TO. They opted in, but recognize it is a long, long shot.
Daughter deferred. Not a favorite so will not be sticking around for reconsideration. Thrilled her final school announced and we can focus on a final decision. Best pf luck to all!
Your DS24 is very similar to my rejected CA girl. 4.0 UW/6 AP, 5 Honors, 5s on all APs, excellent ECs including tons of leadership, service, regional awards on talent, service & scholarship and paid job.
Accepted: UCSB (in state), UW, American, UMD & Temple with scholarships to all OOS
Rejected: BU, UCLA, USC, WashU, UChicago, Columbia
WL: BC
Waiting on: UCB, Northwestern, NYU, GW - she is not feeling very hopeful
We both agreed we would not wear the Bu shirts until she got in even if it was a transfer next year!
I am so happy for her but I feel so bad for so many that were worthy of getting in also. I hope it works out for everyone.
Cheers!
i have seen a few post “TO”…what is that ?
Test Optional
ah right of course
It does. But the proceeds are used to benefit all students.
Waitlisted –– A bit shocked because I’d gotten into Emory (full scholarship finalist), UMich Ross, Notre Dame, CMU, and UVA. This decision just made me realize how unpredictable college admissions are…
S24 waitlisted after acceptances from UMich LSA Honors (EA), Middlebury (RD) Boston College (RD), Wake, and UW Madison (EA). Also had WL at UChicago RD, Claremont McKenna RD, and Notre Dame. Interesting year for admissions.
Yes, check the FAQ - it is binding on the uni, but it is not binding on the student
