Very similar to my daughter who got in everywhere but waitlisted at BU. Good thing she greatly disliked BU and will be at Northeastern honors program for engineering. Coops will be great for her.
This exact same thing happened to my son at Northeastern Honors 2 years ago and he had even higher stats. He was waitlisted and then later admitted with huge scholarship. But, he decided to go to a school that wanted him the first time around
WGPA 4.55
Top 2% of class
All AP, honors and college classes since freshman year
Plays 3 instruments in band
Tons of leadership, NHS, science, math, language, Spanish honor societies
Varsity Swim and Softball
DS 2024 Accepted
25K merit (NMF designated BU as of 3/1)
1540 SAT, NMF
Highest rigor at our school (except for APLit, which didnât fit in his schedule), though you canât take APs until 11th grade so he has 7, with 4s and 5s:
Self study in 10th: APMacro
11th: APUSH, APChem, APBC Calc
12th: APPhysics C, APStat, APEuro
Also: Honors Science Research for 2 years with some local and regional placing (and project related to Urban Studies - his chosen area of study in college), Honors Latin 3 and 4, Honors Geometry, Algebra 2 and PreCalc.
GPA: Our school is out of 100, and weighting for honors/APs adds 2 points, so unweighted just under a 98 and weighted just over a 98. Converting to a 4.0 it comes out around a 3.9, both weighted and unweighted.
ECs/Leadership: pretty good - lots of depth with theater (tech), Quiz Bowl, music.
Community service: ok, not fabulous.
Job: works for local theater company doing lights
Applied as History major (goal is to be an Urban Planner so plan was to do the Urban Studies minor in the Political Science department)
Applied to honors but was not accepted
Acceptances so far: Pitt (with 10K merit per year, and honors), UMass (with 16K merit per year, and honors), UMD (not accepted to honors, disappointingly), Binghamton (First Year Research, but not honors). All of these were either Urban Studies or Geography majors.
Waitlists so far: WashU.
Rejections so far: none yet, but they are coming!
Waiting on: a few reaches, academically and financially.
Will choose Binghamton so far - honors at BU would have made the decision harder, even though BU with the merit is still double Binghamton. We can pay around 50K per year, so thereâd be some loans at BU.
Good luck all.
My son was rejected, but I was wondering if everyone who was rejected received the âguaranteed transferâ offer in the letter. Is this a real guarantee of transfer after 1 year from another college?
Applicants, not acceptances. that still leaves 80% americans applying, I agree 20% is a lot of international applicants, but unless youâre suggesting they all get rejected, I donât see the problem.
and of course Iâm not trying to be insensitive or anything - being an international student - Iâd like to know what an acceptable percentage of admitted students being international is acceptable here, or at least standard, so I know what is a lot and what to expect
What are you guys seeing as an average financial aid offer for BU? I got a lot and am curious if theyâre often this generous - I was shocked (in a good way, i can actually afford to go now)
