Boston University Class of 2028 Official Thread

If you don’t receive what you deem as ‘fair’ need-based financial aid, you are allowed to appeal.

Great - thank you. We got totally hosed with another school. Daughter not going to go there but based on that peanut that we were offered, I am guessing BU’s and others will be similar.

hosed on aid? well, no matter what they say, or how friendly the FA offices appear, they want to give as little as possible.

Phoned again today. Six days until decision day. Was told because we didn’t get the CSS in by January 15 we were late. Mind you they never updated materials required. They still have not received FAFSA information so are basing aid on CSS. I told them today I cannot commit $650 no refundable deposit on May 1 without a financial aid decision. The woman was very nice and asked her superiors if they can try to fast track a decision before May 1. Mind you this is my third call to the FA office this month. Finally she emailed me the appeal form where I could state the reason why I need the FA decision before committing.

you can request a deposit extension

thanks Mishy1. Do you happen to know if you called the number on their website - 617-353-2695? That number is not accepting calls right now. If you called a different number, would you mind sharing it?

Not sure if you mistyped but I phoned: 617 353 2965

Neither fit the problem as they have not sent a financial aid award from BU but have received them from other colleges.

I am a US Citizen or permanent resident, have completed my 2024/2025 CSS Profile and FAFSA applications, AND received a BU need-based financial aid award.

I have been admitted to another college(s) where I have applied for need-based financial aid and I am waiting to be notified.

Looks like the deposit deadline has been extended to May 15 for anyone who submitted FAFSA / CSS profile.

Where did you see this?

Sorry, not automatic…but if you submitted FAFSA and CSS and request an extension it will likely be granted.

it’s stated on the admissions page

I’m just so frustrated because there continues to be no update on FAFSA being received. Lodged an appeal last week and still not change or notification. Just waiting to see how this pans out but now only a couple of days from sign up day.

My daughter got a call this AM that she got off of the waitlist!! Cannot believe it! We did not see this coming.

woo-hoo!! that’s early

Looks like we are out. Appeal took 6 days before they added it to received documents and fAFSA still not listed. What a shame it was DS24 top school.

What is her major? Let us know the process? Admissions called her directly? Also did she complete a LOCI?

She applied to the business school. She received a call from BU admissions late this AM- they left a VM for her while she was in school saying that they had exciting news for her about the waitlist. She called back and they congratulated her, said they were offering a select few from the waitlist offers of admission and that she was one of them. She has to let them know by end of day tomorrow. We hoped to get this news just were not really expecting it and especially not on May 1st!! And yes, she did complete a LOCI right after she was waitlisted.

We are very happy as my son got admitted to the College of Arts and Sciences today, off the waitlist. He had submitted a LOCI just on 4/30 and got e-mail notification of exciting opportunity on Tu 5/1. He got verbal acceptance assurance by phone upon stating his intent to take that opportunity. Today, his BU portal had the official admissions letter, and the “Enroll” (pay deposit) button. His intended major is Physics. He would not be eligible for need-based aid.
