Any sense for the typical number of wait list offers vs guaranteed transfer offers?
Son got waitlisted. ACT36. 14 APs(all 5s) Unweighted GPA: 4/4
Good ECS . Accepted to Carnegie Mellon, UMich , UW Madison , Georgetown and Boston College. Waitlisted by UNC .
Great choices. Congrats.
@momo Does BU facilitate/ set up the first year the study abroad (a la Northeastern) for guaranteed transfer students, or does the student have to find their own study abroad school, and then transfer the credits? There seems to be very little info on the guaranteed transfer option. Thank you!
This is the email my daughter received a month after accepting guaranteed transfer program:
We are thrilled that you have chosen to join us at Boston University in the fall of 2024.
As you prepare for a well-deserved summer break and explore your options for college next year, you may be interested to learn about BUās partnership with Verto Education. This program offers study abroad programs in six global locations: Buenos Aires, Prague, London, Florence, Seville and Turrialba. The academic courses offered through Verto Education are fully accredited by the University of New Haven and are pre-articulated with courses at Boston University. This means that through this partnership, your coursework through Verto Education will seamlessly transfer to Boston University should you choose to join us next fall. For more information about this partnership, please visit the Verto Education website.
Verto Education is just one of several pathways you may wish to explore to complete the transfer requirements for Boston University. Please reference the Guaranteed Transfer Admission Agreement in the MyBU Applicant Portal for more information on other requirements.
If you have questions regarding the Guaranteed Transfer Admission Program or any aspect of BU, please feel free to contact us at 617-353-2300 or gtransfr@bu.edu.
We hope you have a successful and rewarding year.
Best wishes,
John C. McEachern
Director of Admissions
By the way, my S25 just woke up and found out he was also offered the guaranteed transfer program! He just accepted it as a backup as well!
Thanks so much for the info! and - Congrats to your son! :). Is he considering other schools aside from BU?
Does anyone have information about whether BU has admitted student events or where I can find it? The website has a MCW but Iām not sure thatās the actual admitted student event. My D25 just got accepted - we live in CA.
Congrats to your child as well!
My son is also accepted to and considering Northeastern & UC Davis so far. He is still waiting on his number one school - Berkeley. Fingers crossed on that one, but we know itās a long shot. Hoping for the best!
waitlisted! not shocked cause showed no interest
I got into Kilachand, Iām so happy!
D25 received guaranteed transfer, we are really excited about it! She will probably spend the first year at our state flagship which is highly ranked
Accepted for Biomedical Engineering. Stats: 35 ACT, 4.57 W GPA, school doesnāt rank.
Other notable acceptances: Umich, UNC, CWRU, UIUC, Purdue, UCIrvine, UCSB
Waitlisted: WashU, Northeastern, UCLA, Virginia tech
And hopefully the last three !!!
Itās a gimmick program for them to fill coffers after drop outs and to maximize a transfer yield - but going to a school with one foot out the door can never be good for a first year experience.
Go crush it at the state flagship and donāt look back !!
Congratulations on having options and a great acceptance. Your daughter undoubtedly worked very hard and earned this result!!
Certainly a moment to exhale and feel accomplished. Thanks for sharing!
Congratulations! My D was offered that last year by surprise (she thought she had withdrawn her application after ED acceptance elsewhereā¦thatās a whole other story). Somehow she got the GT offer which they told us they only offer to 800 students so itās a fun option to have (even though it was something we never considered due to her commitment at another school). You can also expect to hear from a partner program that offers international experiences for your first year that are fully transferable to BU. It was all a surprise to us and not something she really considered. The international option is expensive but itās a fun option to consider if you are able.
Actually the Boston program is at any school of your choosing, they make zero money off of it (unlike Northeastern).
I know - and yes congrats to anyone on any acceptance. Nonetheless itās a gimmick program for them to get transfers.
36% of transfers get accepted and I donāt have data to back it but Iām hypothesizing that they are mostly wealthy.
The biggest issue is these kids get hooked. Yet they should get hooked by the school that shows them love.
And strive for a great four years there.
DS got into College of General Studies - gap semester, start in January and then summer trip program in London. School is very pricey tho!
S25 Accepted for Music! 4.0 UW, lots of great music specific ECs but also lot of leadership. Strong essays and LORs. BU was his first choice this whole process but unfortunately he did not get a scholarship (he applied for Trustee) and the financial aid provided was so very minimal. So it is very possible that BU is out of the running. So happy for him that he got in but so sad as a parent to not be able to provide the opportunity for him to go.
