Boston University Stage Management Portfolio

Hello, I was wondering about the submission of my portfolio for Boston University.
I am submitting online, and there is a question on the form that asks:

'What concentration(s) are you most interested in studying?

Please check all that apply. If you would like to know more about courses offered in a specific area, please contact the School of Theatre Design & Production Department or review the course of study at bu.edu/academics.'

I chose Technical Production, Stage Managment, Lighting Design, and Scenic Design.
As a result, I was wondering if I could combine all of these into one portfolio, because the portfolio requirements page states the following:

'Design and Production portfolios should demonstrate the broadest range of theatrical and artistic expression. Anything that suggests the applicant’s ability to communicate using the tools of the visual artist can be included, such as actual theatre renderings, related painting or graphics, working drawings, ground plans, lighting plots, props, masks, photography, and photographs of sculpture, murals, or other non-transportable works.

Stage Management portfolios may contain prompt books, programs, director’s notes, and examples of creative writing. The interview provides the primary basis for evaluating applicants to the Stage Management Program. Applicants should come prepared to discuss their activities in the theatre.'

It also states that portfolios that do not have the correct items will not be considered.
Thank you very much for your help.

You might want to call them and ask.

I think I understand your question. On the one hand, they talk about “Design and Production portfolios”. On the other they talk about “Stage Management portfolios”, and seem to say these are different things. You are basically asking whether you can submit ONE portfolio that meets all the criteria of both categories, so that you don’t have to submit two portfolios. I can’t see off the top of my head why that would be a problem. If you did that, you would probably want your portfolio to have separate sections for “Stage Management”, “Lighting Design”, “Scenic Design”.

But then there’s this funkiness about portfolios that “do not contain the correct items.” I don’t know if it says you can have MORE stuff in addition to “the correct items”. That’s why I think you probably want to call them and get it straight.

(Speak to someone in authority, like the person in charge of the program, (or the 2nd in charge)
