**Bowdoin Class of 2017 Regular Decision Discussion**

so it is still possible that i could be accepted without receiving an early write?

Absolutely, a fair number of the early writes would be URMs (whom they want to get to the campus for a visit), another chunk would be athletes, and a third group would be super applicants who are likely going to end up an an Ivy but the early write gives Bowdoin more time to so a sales job. The vast majority of acceptances will be sent out closer to the end of the month . .

sweet, that boosts my confidence a bit. ha, i was really starting to get depressed… i spent so much time on that app haha

Are Asians URMs in Bowdoin?

What are URMs?

underrepresented minority

ahh decisions tomorrow!

woah, decisions are today?

Yes, they start emailing them at 7 PM (but warn it could take several hours). Everyone should hear by Saturday morning.

Staying up all night. Heck, it’s Friday.

Waitlisted

DS in…Good luck to all!

First I was rejected from Rice, and now I’ve been waitlisted at Bowdoin.

This is not a very happy day for me. Hopefully the news from Middlebury tomorrow morning will be better.

Congratulations to everyone who got in!

So I’m assuming the decisions are coming in waves, right? So it seems like it’s accepted first, then waitlisted, then rejected.

And since I haven’t gotten my email yet…

Rejected :frowning: second rejection of the day ouch
2180 SAT, 32 ACT, 3.91 GPA

Congrats to everyone who got in!

Waitlisted

D waitlisted.
Congrats to all accepted applicants!

Were the waitlist/no-go letters kind at least? Onward and upward!

@JoBenny

They were kind, I suppose. Better than WashU, at least.

Here’s the full text:

"Dear ______:

The Admissions Committee has completed its review of 7,048 applicants for admission to Bowdoin’s Class of 2017.

The members of the Committee were impressed by your application and by your many accomplishments, and we believe you would be a wonderful addition to the Bowdoin community. However, due to this year’s intense competition, it is not possible for us to offer you a place in the Class of 2017 at this time. I am writing to offer you a place on our Waiting List.

The Bowdoin Waiting List is not ranked. The Committee will conduct a review of candidates who respond to our Waiting List offer, and we will select additional students for the Class of 2017 depending on the number of available spaces. In recent years, the number of students admitted from the Waiting List has ranged from a handful to nearly fifty, with the openings typically becoming available from early May to late June.

Given the strength of your record, I am certain you have been admitted to other fine colleges and universities. Since we are unable to predict the number or timing of any openings we may have available for students from our Waiting List, I must urge you to enroll at another institution. To accept or decline our invitation to be considered for admission from our Waiting List, please use the online response option at (url).

Thank you for your interest in Bowdoin, and for submitting such a thoughtful and impressive application. I hope that you will register for our Waiting List and that we might have better news for you in May or June. In the meantime, best wishes for the remainder of your school year."

I got accepted! I’m very excited to maybe be a Polar Bear!
