Bowdoin College Class of 2024

@THeMoMo Thank you for taking the time to post to us. The pain of losing my Dad is very fresh and raw for us and not only does DS love Maine, Bowdoin’s curriculum and campus he also wanted to finish what Grandpa started. Thank you for your kind and wise words. Currently, he’s been accepted to another NE LAC and is working hard this weekend on learning to love that school.

son waitlisted, from the looks of this thread it looks like he has plenty of company.

SAT: 1570
GPA: 3.7 UW, 4.4 W

They must have waitlisted a ton this year… I also received a WL

SAT: 1550

Okay ECs (independent research, a few leadership positions, but no major awards)

Good Common App, rushed the supp

I was admitted.

My ECs were strong, but not amazingly so.

I applied through Questbridge, my interview went extremely well, and I also went on their fly-in this fall.

Waitlisted

@Charlie2772 So sorry. Your son sounds like a great kid and has great stats, so no doubt he will have fantastic opportunities. I defnitely get it, though.

@AlwaysLearn Thank you. I’m sure he will. It’s just a complex grieving process at play. Thanks for reaching out

Rejected :frowning: Bowdoin was my dream school so that’s pretty sad. Congrats to everyone who got in though!

1430 SAT
4.0 UW/4.88 W

Does anybody have an idea of how many people they waitlist each year and how many get off the waitlist?

No one got off last year.

Yield rates will be unusually low this year probably…due to COVID-19

@Xxdreams I wouldn’t count on that for a school like Bowdoin and other top schools that meet need without loans. I think Bowdoin’s yield is historically high but, even if it’s 50% in RD, they still have the other 50% of kids they accepted to say yes before they would go to waitlist.

Admissions appears random on the individual level, but it’s anything but that. It seems random because we’re just looking at the very basic stats of those who share. Colleges invest a lot for analytics to predict yield, $ impacts, etc. I’ve learned a lot reading these posts. Thank you to everyone who posts. Congrats to those who are accepted.

DD was waitlisted. SAT 1590, 4.0 (no weighting in our state), IB Diploma (if they can finish it now that the coronavirus has ruined all our plans), varsity athlete. I’m peeved because she has grandparents in state, and it would have been a great fit.
This process is rough.

Accepted

ACT: 35, essay 11
GPA 3.65 UW, 4.85 UW
Taking a gap year and applied through Questbridge RD.

I had some very focused and deep extracurriculars for medicine, research, and environmental science.

EFC 0. Come from a very competitive high school from Illinois.

My UW gpa is not that high, but perhaps my ACT and intensive curriculum made up for it?

Finally, congratulations to everyone that got in.
