Brain-dead girl; family won't let go

How could somebody ever consider the brain a non essential body part?

Yes, angrybob. That was particularly ridiculous, though honestly its hard to decide which is the most ridiculous. So much to choose from.

As someone said on that other forum following Jahi, apparently the author of that amicus brief demonstrates that people can function without a brain :)

Our own esteemed kluge declared a few pages back only a small part is dead and questioned calling her dead.

I have to wonder if the mother has realized that her daughter is dead by now, but can’t admit it due to the lawsuits.

Well, the author of this brief (Daniel Leppin) claims a BA in Economics from the University of Chicago. Since the University of Chicago is ranked #4 on USNWR list of top colleges, I would certainly accord his views significant weight. I don’t believe that the doctors on this case at Children’s Hospital graduated from (nor have the medical degrees from) higher-ranked universities. Based on how we do things here at CC, you’ve got to go with the higher-ranked university opinion.

makennacompton - I think an M.D. from wherever trumps a B.A. from UC when it comes to medical issues. Heck I’d even go so far as to say it trumps a B.A. from Hawvawd.

Angrybob- I think that’s why the tweets have stopped. I think the Uncle and attorney are realizing how fruitless this “battle” has become.

The kidneys? Wow.

I think makennacompton is making a funny (as my late mom used to say). Quite tongue in cheek.

Her volitional consciousness is in her kidneys? Maybe that explains her history of bedwetting.

Sorry, bad joke.

Speaking of bad jokes…

I predict there will be something in the media or social media in the next 24 hours. As the uncle put it, “Got to get those $'s up.” The gofundme site was slowing down, the mother put a thank you on the site, the uncle made some statement and money started coming in again. I watched it change. The contributions have slowed down again thus my prediction of a new bit of insanity in the next day.

That said, I read a couple of the comments on the site. One woman claimed that a brain dead boy was “cured” by a whole food powder sold by some snake oil salesman.

jym - probably. But we probably also know a handful of posters on CC who would take this seriously and as proof (meaning, well, we’d better send snowflake to UC in case, down the road, his career puts him in this kind of situation; he will learn more at UC than any podunk med school because it’s ranked so much higher!)

Just reading the comments on the instagram site Flossy linked. Made me wonder, "What are all these people going to say when their ‘miracle’ is not granted?

True that, teriwtt. And there are also those who say it matters not where they went to undergrad, as long as they get into a good med school/residency. And also those who say no one cares where you went to college after you get that first job. That said, yes, I am with you. I ** kinda** lean a bit more towards the opinions of the physicians who went to Tufts, Hopkins, etc, who are medical directors or faculty at Stanford than the opinion of some whackjob soon-to-be massage therapist (his amicus brief says its “pending”, but his website says he’s certified.) I guess his honesty is housed in one of his unimportant organs.

From the other discussion about jahi, in response to that amicus brief: ( I am still laughing…)

So that’s what I’ve been doing wrong! Thanks, XXXX, for posting the amicus brief from the massage therapist psuedoscientist. Boy, did I learn a lot!

I’ve been using my maternal mitochondria for about the last hour now, trying to get my young teen to get out of bed and clean her room, and get ready for her event today.

I then tried yelling into her ear- kidney meridien, hoping to arouse her consciousness in her kidneys. So far, nothing. (Maybe her kidneys shut down overnight??)

I also tried to communicate with her primitive nervous system, by poking her in the lower spine and sacrum, where her neural tube folded over a few years ago, when we were bonded more closely than we are now. So far, none of it is working.

But I’ll keep on trying, because I’m a dedicated mom.

I wonder if Judge Grillo called him and scheduled a massage?

I wonder if this highly qualified pseudoscientist teaches at the charter school where the kids believe prayer will raise Jahi from the dead, so she can return to school? That publicly funded school that allows kids to choose spirituality over science, as a “valid choice”?

How about a magic 8 ball? S

Just an observation here about the crazy use of social media in this awful case. There are a whole lot of contradictions and varying versions of this tragic story told by various family members on Twitter. I’m thinking someone, somewhere is aware of this and it could become a problem for them at some point. None of it looks much like traditional grieving. Respectfully, of course.

I have to wonder if the mother has realized that her daughter is dead by now, but can’t admit it due to the lawsuits.

I think so. The mom has likely realized that she’s probably going to see some kind of settlement, so she might as well keep up the charade.

The fact is, unless she’s a total idiot or in such deep denial that can’t be penetrated, she has to know BY NOW that this is fruitless…as painful as that is to accept.
