My 25 y.o. daughter is planning a Brazil visit in just two weeks. She’ll need a Visa, I assume. I just realized though that her passport address is our New York address and her driver’s license address is in Massachusetts. Will this create a problem? Help?
Is your address on your passport? I will have to dig mine out and see.
Visa info:

Good Question. Mine’s in our safe. I just assumed there’s an address.
Passport address?? There is none in my passport. Just the place of birth. There is no need to update your passport if you move:

Does DL matter at all? Is she planning to drive in Brazil? I would not recommend that!
She should be aware of the Zika virus:
What a relief! Thank you for checking. I saw that her DL address (submitted with Visa application) must match address on application. Panicked.
She’ll be flying.
It is recommended that you write your address on your passport in pencil so that you can change it whenever you move during the 10 years the passport is valid.
Ok, good thing she is not planning on renting a car and driving in Brazil. DL is needed as a proof of residence, apparently to apply for a tourist visa:
@jasmom I am not kidding about Zika! Your D is of childbearing age. Stuff happens… She should be aware that the CDC issued a travel warning:
Now I’m hoping the Visa doesn’t come through in time! I will be passing along all this info to her, and having a heart-to-heart about postponing the trip until Zika is under control.
Have a heart to hart conversation with her about birth control and not getting pregnant for a few months after the visit.
The virus apparently causes only mild inconvenience-type symptoms in adults, but a severe birth defect has been potentially linked to the infection in women who got infected while pregnant. The jury is still out on that link, but given the high rate of such defects, it makes sense to be extra cautious.
Hope she has a safe and fun trip!
Absolutely re: that talk. I’ll re-post what happens.
They really need to get Zika under control before Brazil Olympics this summer.
It’s curious why the sudden huge jump in microcephaly births, tho Zika has been around for some time. So many unknowns–maybe new mutation? Scary for all those young women in South America who are not allowed access to birth control or abortion but may be subjected to rape or sexual violence–awful combination.
There’s some thought that the zika virus may also be a reason for the uptick in Guillain-Barre. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/zika-virus-link-rare-paralysis-investigated-cdc-issues/story?id=36452629
We have a friend who was Recently diagnosed with Gillian-Barre and was week for weeks or months. Fortunately, he fully recovered but it was a shock to everyone. Another teacher at his elementary school had it months previously and made a much slower recovery.
The same mosquito that carries dengue also can carry the Zika, so it’s a big issue, since our state has s stubborn pocket of dengue right now.
Zika virus is making more headlines:
CDC issued new guidelines for travelers. Does not bode well for the upcoming cruise season and the Summer Olympics…
Yes, I expect spectators of childbearing age may stay away in fairly significant numbers. I am not sure many have confidence that things will improve on mosquito front prior to this summer.
I’ve seen warnings for pregnant women and for women of childbearing age. Any clarity on someone who is not pregnant being exposed and subsequently getting pregnant down the road? How long it remains in one’s system and risks future children?
