"Breaking Bad" final season starts August 11th - SPOILER ALERT

I want a dark ending! (I also think Megamind would have been a superior movie had Megamind died/failed at the end and the superman guy had to come back and save the city).

what an episode! It was so gratifying to see Hank take a bullet to the head…am I the only one that wants to see hank, marie and jessie dead?

Sounds like the ending of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre-like movie. Leatherface’s family kill Walt’s whole family. Walt returns to avenge his family. Instead, he is sliced to pieces by chainsaws. Jesse becomes the eternal slave of Leatherface’s family. Ugh.

My son and I came up with the prediction of a massive explosion killing Lydia, Todd and the Nazis, some or all of them. This will be at the meth lab and one of them will light up a smoke and BOOM. Son mentioned before Sunday’s episode that he noticed it’s always showing the Nazis lighting up cigarettes. Then the beginning of Ozymandias, the flashback shows Walt telling Jessie not to be stupid enough to light up his cigarette in the meth lab RV. Imo, some foreshadowing going on there. Or maybe Jessie will be the one to take them all down with intentionally lighting up a smoke after he cooks.

I have and always will love Skyler. When she faked as a dumb blonde with big boobs, that sealed the deal for me. I predict her, her kids and her sister will be the only ones standing at the end. Perhaps Jessie will sacrifice his life to save them so he goes out a ‘hero’.

We are wondering what significance there was in Marie talking to her therapist about looking up poisons on the internet. Son seemed to think that whole scene was sort of a showcase for Marie to reveal that, because if not, what was it’s purpose? Will that somehow play into the grand finale?

Ummmm - yes, you are the only one.

Actually, I can’t say that. I hear there are a lot of people rooting for Jessie to die and Walt to “win” (although I don’t think that’s going to happen.)

Miller, I read something on the internet after that “poison” episode that Marie’s conversation with her psychiatrist was supposed to show how everyone was “breaking bad” - Marie and Skyler included. (I think that was also the episode where Skyler told Walt to kill Jessie.) Or something like that.

My guess is that the Neonazis are left standing at the end and Walt dies of his cancer. But what do I know?

When Jesse said, “Put me into a coma, why don’t you?” in the same scene, I briefly wondered if that could be foreshadowing. But then I thought the writers would probably never be that obvious. Maybe the cigarette thing, though.

I don’t see the need to root for a dark ending. It’s a dark show, and all the possible endings now are dark. Hank is gone, a family has been destroyed, Walt is already responsible for dozens of deaths. I am interested in how Walt’s punishment will unfold. Even if he walked away with a pile of money, he won’t beat the lung cancer - he’d have to die alone, knowing he’d devastated the people he loved and that all his evil-doing was pointless.

This post calls to mind a wonderful entry by Emily Nussbaum on the New Yorker website this week about the phenomenon of “bad fans.” Not Breaking Bad fans, but:

Thank you, Emily. [That Mind-Bending Phone Call on Last Night’s ‘Breaking Bad’ : The New Yorker](That Mind-Bending Phone Call on Last Night’s “Breaking Bad” | The New Yorker)

Hey Miller. I really like your thinking about the cigs and lab explosion. I hope Jesse takes them all out. I still like Jesse.

In this last episode the entire flasback scene of Walt and skyler talking on the phone in the beginning is shot with the knife block fully and dominately displayed in the shot. How awesome to see the same camera angle as skyler later goes over and pulls out the knife instead of picking up the phone. Such good stuff…

Thanks for that link, frazzled - great column!

S is a college freshman, and has been away from home for the past three weeks. When we text, it has nothing to do with school, and everything to do with BB. I’m going to point out the knife block camera angles that sax mentioned. He’s gonna love that!

It may have already been mentioned, but I also read that the firemen in the fire station had a chess game going and the white king was in check.

A few weeks ago, I saw Anna Gunn talking about the final 8 episodes. She said, “The first five are exciting. The final 3 are breathtaking.”

Yep.

I certainly don’t see the neonazi’s surviving. They are the creepiest. That’s not a dark ending to me. And I see Sky, her kids, her sister, surviving. I even wonder if they will “flash forward” to them living somewhere else a year from now. Do you think they will end up with any of the millions?

I enjoy everyone’s comments.

Great article frazzled! I like that possible ending with Jesse lighting up in the new lab. I would hope he would do it with Todd’s whole family down there with him.

Remember what Walt was doing at his old house in the opening scene of season 5, episode 9 (“Blood Money” the one I think of as “Hello Carol”)? Don’t know if there will be any connection to Marie, but certainly does tie into the poison theme.

I love the complexity of the show. For instance, Marie is clearly an innocent party here. She’s a victim. Yet she’s so darned smug and annoying I can’t help but dislike her and prefer her money-laundering drug kingpin accomplice sister. The moment when she forces Skyler to tell Finn about what Walt’s done is delicious and excruciating at the same time. She seems to be reveling in the moral authority and power she holds over Skyler, when we as an audience already know Hank’s dead and Walt will not face traditional justice.

Sue22. That is exactly the way I feel about Marie too. “Reveling in the moral authority” perfectly describes the moment. Smug and annoying…yes!

Does anyone else think Walt will use the ricin on himself, maybe after his “birthday” breakfast?

I happen to like Marie, with all her annoying traits. She is everyone’s PIA family member. Annoying sister, loving aunt, quirky and devoted wife. We all know individuals like her. That what I love about her character.

When it is allmover, i am going to have to re watch the series, knowing what I know and look for all the metaphors and clues and get a better understanding of the short beginning scenes.

I think Walt’s got some scores to settle, and ricin would be a pretty slow, painful way to commit suicide. I think he’s spent the last year plotting, and his final move(s) should be fascinating.
