"Breaking Bad" final season starts August 11th - SPOILER ALERT

Why would he want to go out in such a slow painful way when he could just shoot himself?

I like Marie, too. She had Junior’s best interest in mind when she insisted he be told the truth. It really was the right thing to do. She was treating him as a young adult while his parents continued to shield him from the truth like a child. It’s like she was thinking a little more clearly in the midst of all the turmoil, and it wasn’t all about herself.

I don’t think the ricin will do Walt in. There’s been some reference to Old Yeller, and I am wondering if Jessie ends up shooting Walt like he’s a rabid dog who done broke bad. I don’t see Jessie carrying on the meth legacy. He would only end up like Walt and Gus. The nazis and Todd and Lydia go BOOM.

Old Yeller was a reference that was presented to Walt to justify killing Jesse.

I’m still not a fan of the Skyler character, never will be, but Anna Gunn’s acting is first rate. When Marie said to her in the office, I think there is hope for you Skyler, you could almost see her remembering with horror how she told Walt to “take care of” the Jesse problem before she started to cry.

I found Marie’s going to Skyler and saying, what you did is terrible but you are my sister, I will do everything I can to help you get through this, very un-smug. Marie is stronger than she knows and looks to be a heck of a lot stronger willed than Skyler.

Maybe the ricen finds its way into someones cigarette?

That explains why she goes shoplifting every time she gets a little upset.

^ Good one. I think she kicked that habit in season 1 though. Not quite as serious as telling your DH to murder someone, is it?

 1. She stole from open houses in S4

Didn’t she also tell Hank to lie (to the police) about how he beat the living hell out of a defenseless Jesse?

You also have to remember she is in a much different situation from Skylar and that she admitted to her therapist that she was looking up how to poison Walt. If she was in the same situation as Skyler do you think she would really act much differently?

It just popped into my mind today that Walt brought the vial of ricin with him to his meeting with Lydia, when she pitched him the idea of sending meth to the Czech Republic. Remember? He had it hidden under his Heisenberg hat at the diner. If Lydia wound up on the receiving end of that stuff, it would be just fine with me.

I like Marie and always have. Yes, she’s flaky and can be obnoxious at times, but I think her devotion to the kids is rock-solid, and she truly adored Hank and pushed him through his recovery from the shooting in season 3.

Just rewatched the last episode with DH, who was away when it originally aired. One thing I noticed was that when Skyler grabs the knife in her kitchen to ward off Walt, the scene is shot at exactly the same angle as the first season scene when Walt, at the end of his first cook, calls her to tell her he’ll be home late. In the first season scene she’s using the counter on which the knife block sits to wrap the ugly clown she’s eBaying and she and Walt are bantering about taking a family trip over the weekend. The two scenes are in contrast-domestic tranquility and unity vs. anger, fear and division.

My husband seems to think that Walt will beat cancer, as evidenced by him coming back to the house to retrieve the ricin, with full head of hair. But I do lie the thought that Jessie lights up a cigarette in the meth lab and everyone blows.

In the flash forward to his 52nd birthday at Denny’s Walt was coughing and taking pills in the bathroom. I don’t think he’ll be beating the cancer.

I don’t think so at all. I think it was gratuitously cruel. It was forcing Skylar to do the exact same thing to Flynn that Walt did to Jesse when he told him that he watched Jane die and did nothing to help her.

There was absolutely no need for Flynn to be told at that point – if his father had been arrested (as Marie believed), then the son would have known soon enough.

The only reason that Marie did that was to punish and humiliate Skyler, and to put herself in a position of control.

I think since Walt relocated to New Hampshire, he stopped the chemo, and that’s why his hair grew back…

Walt isn’t going to beat the cancer, imo.

Cruel, perhaps. Gratuitous, no. Marie’s husband came within a breath of being shot to death and had to relearn to walk because of Walt’s drug dealing. Skyler continued to protect Walt throughout. Marie has a right to be angry. Even more so now, obviously.

I see Marie in a more sympathetic light. By keeping Junior in the dark, Skyler was trying to keep her two worlds separate. Marie’s insistence in the truth is a way to get her sister to see the bigger picture and the greater reality; everything that’s happening touches many lives and there’s no separating one from the other. Also, with all the deception and how it’s affected Marie’s life, and Marie thinking she was the crazy one with problems for so long, Marie has the right to be outraged. I mean, let’s see, stealing items from a person’s home vs. cooking meth and being responsible for scores of deaths and much destruction enroute…hmmmm…we’re gonna condemn Marie?

One of the great things about BB is watching the evolution and change of its characters, and Marie is no exception. I believe Marie started out as sort of comic relief - the DEA agents’ cooky purple-loving shoplifting wife. But as other characters, she’s changed over the course of the series. I do see her as having become stronger and more focused now. Her confrontation with Skyler, and subsequent talk with Walter Jr revealed her to be tough and driven. Yes, she still has her weird sides (the poison talk with her shrink, the frustration with the parking situation at work) but she’s no longer the same Marie who stole at open houses in season 1.I do see her as becoming a source of strength and direction in the final episodes.

She didn’t steal at open houses in S1 that was in S4

In season 1 Marie stole the expensive and useless tiara she gave Skyler for her baby shower. When Skyler, not knowing it had been shoplifted, tried to return it she was detained by security. Marie refused to admit she’d stolen it.

“She didn’t steal at open houses in S1 that was in S4” Whatever. She’s a flawed character, like everyone else in BB. But she’s changed, the same way everyone else has changed over the course of the series; I’m not saying she’s become a beacon of rationality, but she IS tougher, more focused and forced Skyler to do something extraordinary: confront her own complicity and tell Walt Jr.
