"Breaking Bad" final season starts August 11th - SPOILER ALERT

Actually, I see victim advocacy as a way for Marie to stay in the spotlight. I envision her wanting to tell her story, and Hank’s over and over again. She may have been annoying and imperfect but I think she also had a good heart. I’m not sure why she would be poor. She’s a trained nurse and her husband would have had good life insurance.

Re: post 427. I like the scenario but I think I’d watch a show where Jesse becomes Dread Pirate Roberts and creates the online black market Silk Road.

“This change was neither shown nor implied” – really??? I think Marie’s tough, reasoned and compassionate handling of/looking after Skyler in the last 3 episodes of the series show a pretty significant change!

Interesting ideas.

Will Gretchen and Elliot give the money to Walt Jr.? What will he do with it?

I hope they set up the trust in such a way that it protects Flynn from using his sudden wealth (at a very young age) to self destruct.

Coming into 9 million dollars (is that the correct amount?) at 18 is a recipe for disaster for the most mature kid. For a kid with Flynn’s past? Honestly, he could blow the whole thing while running from unresolved father issues.

The changes in Marie don’t have to be shown or implied by the series end. That’s because she isn’t there quite yet. When we last see Marie, she’s still looking for closure, hoping to learn where her husband’s body is. Walt is still on the lam. Her sister still faces prosecution. All of those things will soon be resolved and THEN Marie will take stock of her life and decide where to go from there. Just about that time, Junior will be coming into the money.

Marie is used to some power via Hank, and I don’t think she will want to give the kind of prestige up. She will acquire her own power or marry another powerful man or both.

I figure Walt would be cremated and his ashes scattered, tho I couldn’t say where.

I wonder how Skyler would explain to Marie how she knows where Hank’s body is.

The one thing we didn’t get to see was a confrontation between Walt and Marie after Hank died. Whoa. Not sure what woulda happened there. But who knows what she may have said to a dead corpse.

A group of fans submitted an obituary for Walter White in the Albuquerque Journal!

One of Walt’s best moments was his effort to save Hank. Too little too late of course and it didn’t absolve him of his role in it. I never saw Walt as being as bad as he was. I was in denial.

We’ll just have to agree to disagree. Just as barrrk thinks there is no implication that Marie has evolved (I disagree with that assessment), I never saw a shred of evidence that Skyler viewed Walt’s new occupation as anything other than a total disaster. Her machinations to try to hold onto the money appeared, like Walt’s final efforts, to be an attempt to see that the whole disaster wasn’t “all for nothing.” As far as Skyler knows as she smokes in her kitchen and contemplates the lottery ticket which shows where Hank’s body was dumped, it was.

Her efforts and agility at money laundering didn’t say to me that Walt’s efforts were a total disaster. She enjoyed that because it played to her strengths - strengths that Walt didn’t have.

martha, any link to that obit? Would love to read it!
cartera, good description of Skyler. Somewhere along the way, she realized she was a part of something much bigger in her life. She handled it the best she knew how. She had a role to play, and she was doing a good job of it. Yes, she was between a rock and hard place, but at any point she could have turned her husband in to the Feds and she didn’t.

First time posting in this thread, but I’ve been a reader for a while. So glad everyone is keeping the thread alive to relieve my post-Breaking Bad depression :)

Was just coming on to post Walter’s obit.

Thanks for the link. Ha, ha, “he will be greatly missed.” perfection!

Btw, I’m a big Skyler fan, always was. She’s one of the main reasons I watched the show. Then, the episode when she played the dumb blonde role during the IRS audit, I fell in love with her character. That episode had me cracking up at the way she was all cleavage and dippy questions to the tax man.

Thanks for posting the link to Walter’s obit. I tried to figure out how to do it but am technologically challenged!

On a related note, today I looked up Badfinger on Amazon.com and see that their album “The Very Best of Badfinger” is the #1 best selling album in the pop oldies category and #3 in the soft rock category.

Anyone else experience BB withdrawal last night?

My wife and I are leisurely watching it all again. In the very first episode, there are the seeds of Heisenberg when he assaults a kid in a clothing store who is making fun of Walt Jr’s disability.

I looked up Badfinger, and shockingly two of the original band members committed suicide–both by hanging. Adds another dark edge to BB.

I wonder if Gilligan also considered Dylan’s “It’s all over now Baby Blue” as a final song. It works:

Leave your stepping stones behind, something calls for you
Forget the dead you’ve left, they will not follow you

Yes, I was sad yesterday evening, too. I discovered, though, that I’d never seen many of the special features on my Season 1-4 BB DVDs, so that will be nice for me to catch up on while I wait for my Christmas present. Told my husband that I want the complete collection in the snappy barrel case when it’s released around Thanksgiving. I wonder if I’ll wait till Christmas to open it?

I have also been a Skyler fan since the beginning, though she lost me a bit when she advised Walt to have Jesse taken care of. One of my favorite moments was in “I.F.T.” - you know the one I mean. Walt was just awful to her in front of the police, and of course was cruel in so many other ways. He so had that coming.

Yes, DH and I are savoring rewatching from the beginning also.
Soooo many previews of things to come:
We forgot Walt had a pt job in the carwash…and i shown rolling a huge blue barrel in an early scene.

I watched the entire 6 seasons in the past couple of months, so it was very intense. I just finished watching the finale and reading this thread. I thought the show was incredibly well-written and acted. A tragedy, really. Such wreckage that Walt left in his wake, both physical and emotional.

I like the idea of Marie picking herself up and finding meaning to her life as a victims’ advocate. I think Skyler did love Walt at the end, but her life is ruined. Holly seems to be the only one left unscathed.

I was happy that Jessie got away. My take on the scene of him with his box was that it was a fantasy he was having in the midst of his enslavement, and perhaps a dream of what could still be.

I’ve spent a lot of time in Albuquerque recently which is the reason I first became interested in watching BB. The contrast between the very gritty parts of the city and the beauty of the desert was well done.

A couple of things I thought odd. The White house is 3 bedroom and 1 bath (remember the time Skyler refused to let Walter use the bathroom?) But who puts the only bathroom in the master suite? A house like that should have its bathroom entrance from the hall. A couple of times early on Jesse refers to the interstates as “the 40” and “the 25”. I think Uncle Jake did the same in the last season. This is a Southern California thing, not an Albuquerque thing.

Why was the money only for Flynn, not for Holly too?

Why was everything in Marie’s house purple? She wore purple exclusively up until Hank’s final confrontation with Walt, when she wore black. The very last time we see her on the phone with Skyler she’s wearing a white shirt with black pants. Is this carrying on the chess theme?

Felina? Can someone explain the name of the final episode to me?
