I moved to the US from Ukraine just three years ago. I’ve only been learning English since then. My grades are weak (C average) and my ACT which I just took will be low too. Do schools give consideration to this situation? In particular Penn State is my dream school.
If you come to college in the US all of your instruction and work will be in English. Proficiency in the language is extremely important. Please take the time to look at the websites of schools you are interested. Here is some information from Penn State https://admissions.psu.edu/info/future/international/requirements/#english
I’m a US citizen. That’s for intl students.
I don’t think you will get any break.
Ok
Citizenship matters for financial aid purposes.
English language proficiency matters for admission and college placement. With only three years in the US, it is likely that you will be asked for a TOEFL score.
Must you graduate from high school this year? Meet with your guidance counselor, and see if you can take an extra year to finish up. That will give you more time to improve your Academic English, and to raise your GPA.
