The University admitted 1,732 students to the class of 2024, bringing this year’s overall acceptance rate to 6.9 percent, according to Dean of Admission Logan Powell.
The regular decision acceptance rate rose to 5.2 percent from 4.8 percent for the class of 2023. Students admitted through this round will still need to make their decisions by May 1, but the University will consider extensions on a “case-by-case” basis, Powell added.
As the COVID-19 crisis and its economic effects continue, Powell said the Office of Admission and the Office of Financial Aid are preparing for an increase in the number of students who will appeal their financial aid packages or take gap years to defer the financial stress of paying for college.
…
To keep the size of the class consistent with past years at 1,665 students, the University may accept more students than it usually does off of its waitlist, Powell said. Additionally, the University gave out a “slightly larger” number of waitlist offers to give the admissions department “flexibility” if they need to accept more students, Powell added. The waitlist, he predicted, will have roughly 800 active students this year. In recent years, the University has admitted anywhere between two to 300 students off of the waitlist, The Herald previously reported.
…
The University will not inform waitlisted students in their admissions notifications of the potential for a greater number of open spots resulting from the greater number of admitted students who may choose to take gap years.
…
The University admitted 88 students to the Program in Liberal Medical Education out of 2,530 applicants, and 20 students to the Brown/RISD Dual Degree Program from a pool of 725 applicants.

@birthofalegend you have every right to be disappointed. It’s not all about stats. Your 1470 is just 20 pts below the school average, which means you’re right in the mix. The stats get you in the door, the rest is what major you’re interested in, who else applied this year… Lots of things that just aren’t in your control. Best of luck.
Looks like an awesome opportunity. Our son was accepted to Brown, and in two years our daughter will likely apply to RISD. Unfortunately he’s as artistic as a fish, and she is into so many things she won’t have the academics for Brown.
@Empanadas12
Funny, Pahz was wait-listed at Carnegie, one of his best friends got into it though. We loved our visit there, found a fantastic Thai restaurant, about 3 miles from campus.
My brother-in-law went to Vassar. The campus was beautiful. We didn’t have time to explore the area as we were just passing through. The physics department was small, but they spent over an hour with us. Small school, but intimate and welcoming.
When I saw wait-listed at Wesleyan, I was thinking the same thing as you. You’ve got a month to explore the 3 schools and fall in love. They’re all great, all in different settings.
If you do go to CM, look for Shaborn. African American, about 6’ 5’, 150 lbs, nicest kid (haven’t heard his Financial Aid yet, and if he’s going)
@ thinkyoghurt Congrats! Look forward to meeting you
Congratulations @NervousSeni0r !!!
My D20 is also Japanese/AA. She is also accepted to Brown and Northwestern. I would love to hear which school you decide ?
a little late but also rejected
was by far my favorite school and i loved its culture of learning. was wondering if there is an appeals process and if anyone thinks if its worth appealing?
Daughter got in!
1590 SAT, chem/MathII subject SAT 800/800, 4.0 un/4.5 wt. GPA, leadership and tons of volunteer hours, USCO national qualifier, National Merit Scholarship finalist, artist, teacher at private school.
We love the learning environment in Brown. She would like to learn economics and computer. UC Berkeley and UCLA are certainly much cheaper for in-state students.
Big Mistake.
Not going to go to Chicago because of Room and Board??? Suck it up and find the money… American is an awful school- its where you go when you don’t get into anywhere else… (Maybe since I am a Georgetown Grad- AU was a nothing school)… You child is an amazing student. Sad if they end up at AU.
Did anyone who was accepted receive an acceptance packet, or was it only through the portal?
