Brown PLME - How much does SAT score impact an application?

Hello,

This isn’t really a “Chance Me/Match Me!,” but I figured it sort of fits in this category and I need guidance!

My dream is Brown PLME, but I know it’s super competitive and pretty much everyone applying has amazing statistics/academics. I just got my SAT score back today and I’m really disappointed unfortunately :frowning: I got a 1450 (660 EW, 790 M) and I’m really worried this will completely ruin my chances of getting in. I’m thinking about retaking it in March, but if it doesn’t work out, I’m probably not going to submit my SAT score.

How much does the SAT impact your application at Brown? I’m a Californian and an Asian female (11th grade). My grades are fine I think (4.0 unweighted as of now), and my AP scores right now are:

AP World History: 5
AP Physics 1: 4

I’m currently taking AP Literature, AP Biology, AP Computer Science Principles, and AP Calc AB. If I get 5s on these, could it compensate for my low SAT score? I’m also shadowing a pediatrician (applying to hospitals now to volunteer). I’ve won a competition (Conrad Challenge) by creating a diagnosis device and was invited to a conference for that. I’ve participated in some summer programs (UC Berkeley ATDP - Advanced Biotech, Stanford Immersion in Community Medicine, UChicago Young Innovators Program).

If my SAT score might affect their admission decision, what should I do to make up for it? Please help

Thank you so much!

Sincerely,
Anonymouse4

A few things things.

  1. You aren’t even half way through your junior year. Take the SAT again but prep well for it.

  2. I believe most colleges do not use AP test scores as an admission metric. So…no, a 5 on the AP tests might not make up for an SAT score.

  3. You might want to post on the premed forum about Brown PLME. It’s a highly competitive program. The BS/MD folks on the premed forum can give you some advice about this.

Not the program specifically but the Brown CDS shows 81% submitted but they consider scores, which means not a ton of weight given. That said the 25th percentile was 1500.

You have many chances to retake - it’s early - and don’t focus on only one school. There are many schools out there - including others that assure med school as well.

Good luck.

Thank you - I just posted in the premed forum.
