Take note…

ā€œ As the University reconsiders its admissions policies, the class of 2028 may be the last to be admitted under early decision.

In September, President Christina Paxson P’19 P’MD’20 convened an ad hoc committee to reconsider, among other policies, the University’s use of an early decision application round. The committee has been actively meeting and plans to release its recommendations before the start of the spring 2024 semester.ā€

Are you an unhooked applicant. I am curious to know if any unhooked applicant got admitted in ED.

got straight rejected ! now im extremely terrified for rd—i poured so much time and effort into my brown app, so if they don’t accept me i don’t think i have a chance at any other t20

my video was pretty terrible–do y’all think i could email the admissions office and ask if i could make + submit a new video before RD deadlines?

I would strongly suggest not doing that. Provokes the question why did you submit something you perceive as sub standard to begin with.

Whatever you submitted has you still in the running. Don’t bother them but update with significant accomplishments only.

it was kind of an extenuating circumstances thing (adhd medication shortage got me + both affected my ability to work on the video and also meant i had to spend more time on schoolwork, leaving me less time to work on it when i did have the ability) but yeah i’ll hold off. planning to send a LOCI in early feb when (hopefully) NMF status comes back

I will say it again do not contact them with ā€œextenuating circumstancesā€. You will be highlighting a negative.

Most every student faces some adversity (not minimizing yours), but pointing out that in the face of adversity you submitted something sub par is not a good look.

You are no longer in control of the process which is very hard to accept. Unfortunately however that is the situation and your time and focus is better spend on other applications.

I would send the LOCI much sooner. Really focus on making the connections between you and Brown, not on accomplishments.

Then, send an update in late Feb/early March with NMF and hopefully some other achievement. NMF isn’t really a big step forward from NMSF, but if you could pair it with another honor (award, internship, etc), that might be helpful!

I think you could send a brief inquiry to the general admissions email address asking if they accept video updates. I would not mention any excuses (though the adhd meds shortage is real! I have an adhd kid, and OPtum RX with mailed meds has been a lifesaver for her). Hang in there!

All the best!

okay! i’ll probably send it mid-january then–i’ve read it’s better to wait until AOs are back from winter break and in the office again. thank you for your advice, and good luck to your adhd kiddo as well
