Did you apply anywhere for premed? I thought you got into several places.

Did anyone apply to the Stevens/UMDNJ program? If so, when are interview notifications being released?

@PLHELP I applied to 12 different combined programs. All the rest are undergrad schools only for engineering. I’ve been accepted everywhere except WashU which was a waitlist. Idk if that is the answer you were looking for.

@booknerd12 I did NJIT and Stevens but I got my interview through NJIT in the beginning of Feb. Stevens is currently sending out their requests, and acceptances will go out for April 1st by mail.

@KLM123… Was just looking at these posts because I was thinking about where we were this time last year. My S was interviewed for Miami HPME and was only planning to attend if he was accepted to the program. Ultimately he didn’t get in to the program but chose to attend Miami anyway. His other first choice was Cornell (he was accepted). The school really sold itself on our visits. Just thought I would share my two cents now. He is very, very happy with his choice. Fantastic GPA, great professors and an overall positive experience. I believe if he continues on this path he should be able to get into medical school through the usual application process. I wish you luck. Any questions, feel free to message me.

My Dad graduated Miami Undergrad 1974. When he went for his Med interview at Tufts, he met another interviewee from Princeton who literally LAUGHED IN HIS FACE when my Dad told him he was from U Miami…long/short…my Dad accepted and onto elite residency…blah, blah, blah but he remembers, to this very day, that exchange! Success is largely a reflection of personal endeavor…look at Barack Obama!!!

@tropixx that is ridiculous.

@bcaha5, Thanks for your input. Appreciated.

We have visited WashU and UM. Both are great schools. WashU also giving her great scholarship. WashU ranked much higher in per-med than UM. She also got Princeton’s likely letter.

Finger crossed for UM’s HPME.

@KLM123 Which merit scholarship did she receive at WashU?

And did anybody else hear anything from Stony Brook? Who else applied, and did you apply Engineering or Regular Scholars for Medicine?

Does anyone know when GW results come out??

No idea when or how. Probably around April 1.

Ridiculous is the NEW “happily ever after”

@TheBombingRange, Currently Eliot + few other financial aid. Rodriguez finalist

@KLM123 That’s great!!! Congrats on those options!!! I hope you get good news from Miami.

Hi can anyone give me advice on the umdnj interview? Im interviewing for (njit) and i’m super nervous!

@klm just curious if your D would choose any bs/md school over Princeton and why? I may end up in a similar situation and was looking for people’s insights. Turning down a top 10 college (usnwr) for any bs/md i.e. I can it getting more interesting if it came to choosing a top 10 over NW HPME or Brown PLME…just my $0.02. Others?

NJIT is still putting people through? Wow, I had my interview Feb. 1 and I thought just Stevens was sending people to interview. IDK if you have interviewed anywhere else yet, but they were very relaxed and nice. They took you on a tour with students (you can ask/say whatever you want, they have no say in the process), have lunch with them (I toured with one other kid and he didn’t stay for lunch), and then I waited in the waiting room for 10 minutes for an interview. I interviewed with Dr. Lea, really nice guy, easy to talk to. We really just had a conversation, it was very relaxed.

@thebombingrange I know I thought it was pretty late too, but idk… Thanks for the advice!

@stanfordready, You may want to check my post #1886.

Corrections:
D didn’t get admission to Princeton. Just got a likely letter. She is a candidate for US president award 2013 which may have triggered this litter.

Not “any bs/md programl over Princeton”. But many bs/md program based on their specialization and research resource.

Answer to your question:
D wants to be a research doctor. She made up her mind when her mom tried to end her life due to incurable disease (D was 6 yrs old at that time. It has been taking a big toll on our family).

For the past 5+ years she has been doing research/internship/volunteering/shadowing/mentor at VA hospital where she also seen several VA patients, who like her mother, have no control over their situation.

So her interest in medical will not change even if she goes to Ivy school. So why not pick BS/MD program now? and spend next 3-4 years on medical research than Ivy course load.

Residency at Ivy should be a great choice for my D (dream come true).

But so far she got only rejections from BS/MD program. Crapshoot

@revo also interviewed NJMS (not through NJIT)…students/interviewer very kind and friendly…

Hi KLM
I am really sorry to hear your and your D’s story. I really feel bad for you D, who despite scoring such high marks did not get in to a BS/MD program. If she is in to research, then she should consider schools such as U of R for her med school, who encourage and accept students with research interests.

Also her interests in research will more than likely give her a free ride for the med school, if she chooses to apply for MD/PhD programs. May be she was meant to do 4 years of liberal arts to make sure medicine is what she truly wants to do and then embark on a life long career of research and teaching to help make the life of others better.

As a parent, even with out the added burden of your family’s sad past, watching your D, not get in to BS/MD programs [despite her excellent scores, for you to have seen her work so hard to achieve this score] makes me feel sad; I am sure this must make you feel terrible. I empathize with you. As a parent, I do not know how I will be able to bear it [I am sure, come next year, I will know].

I wish the very best for your D and your family. [I tried to PM you but, I am so new, I can not do that.:(].
