To everyone who is hurting, we - your peers and the parents here - do understand and sympathize , and we struggle with giving you words that try to help. Even when they don’t. I mentioned that my daughter had 10 rejections in a row - imagine how that felt - and we sure appreciate all the sympathy and encouragement we received. It certainly takes time to get over it and again, we do understand and feel sorry for the pain. As others have said, remember you do have options even if it feels like the end of the world right now. It almost never is. Hang in there and all the best wishes to everyone.

@FrozenShardz…I wasn’t directing it at you…just talking out loud on behalf of a couple of close pals who have had only bad news come their way and they have taken it very personally. I know they have been years in play and no smiles to be found. Hopefully things will be looking up for them soon. I myself am waiting for the process to run its course before patting myself on the back.

@starlight27 - I am sorry to hear about HPME, I thought it funny too because I called them that morning and within 2 hours they emailed me my rejection and at first I was freaked out that they rejected me because I called but I don’t think thats true. Congrats of PSU though!

Did anyone get an email from Drexel’s bs/md program about majors?

Got accepted to SBU/GW!
Congrats on all the acceptances everyone.

Did any of you have Mohammed Abedin for ur DUCOM interview? I had mine with him, and it din’t turn out that great. He didn’t even know wat a BS/MD program was.

Does anyone know how many people get accepted for HPME? I had my interview and everyone had different ideas. Also, does anyone know if the acceptance rate (from interview to admission) is higher for applicants from Illinois? I read in an older thread that such was the case.

@SLCMom- Thank you so much for your kindness. You’re so right that we’ll all end up doctors no matter what. I’m sorry that your daughter had to go through that-- I hope the disappointment is starting to wear off. Good luck to her :D

@Sadfeet- Thanks!! Haha that’s too funny. I don’t think the rejection has much to do with anything honestly. I truly do think that some of these decisions must come down to randomness. How do you differentiate 500 top caliber students and choose only 100 of them to interview? I’m sure you’re an awesome candidate, so I’m sorry you didn’t get in either. And I haven’t heard anything from Drexel.

@mcat9442- I thin about 100 are interviewed and around 40 are accepted (it used to be 60 but I think they’re trying to reduce the amount over the past 2 years). And I don’t think it makes that much of a difference, but I think that if you have two exactly equal students and one is from Illinois and the other is not, the one from Illinois would most likely get in. But they don’t really care, especially in comparison with Brooklyn and UConn’s programs.

@student2349 Congratulations on SBU GWU. Were you notified through snail mail, email or a call?

@mcat9442 I hear that about 40 get accepted and about 20-25 end up as freshmen in the program. I don’t think the program favors Illinois kids. It likely gets a disproportionate number from Chicagoland applying to and eventually entering the program because of the proximity to home. That is conjecture on my part, I don’t know for sure.

Son did not get offer for the SLU Medical Scholars Program. Disappointed but not unduly distressed because he has been having doubts about the program.

I believe NU HPME may be interviewing numbers closer to 150 than 100. Someone posted 40 out of 160 before.

There are a great many reasons not to make the cut in BS/MD programs. Applying only to the hard to get into programs, not being from a state like Texas or NY where residency prevents OOS from applying but where they have many programs, not being able to afford expensive combined programs and hence not applying, focusing narrowly and expecting to go only to one or two or do regular undergrad - the list goes on.

My view is that BS/MD process is grueling. Any kid who had the heart to go through it will be successful no matter what - you get into a top or not so top program and choose not to go but apply in 3 years, you don’t get into one and apply in 3 years to med school, you start undergrad and find you never wanted medicine and do something else. Trust me when I say that you will ALL BE SUCCESSFUL in life. Hard work and perseverance are enduring traits and you have proven to yourself that you have them by putting yourselves through this process.

@coquifrog email

if you got SBU/GW, then anyone get any from GW/GW?

Is there any way to check the SLU Med. Status online?

I got my acceptance by postal mail yesterday; I checked just now in the admission portal and also, logged into myslu, but, there are no updates there. I think you can’t check the status online.

Wish you the best.

Anyone know when GW/GW comes out?

@student2349 My son is on waitlist for SBU/GW. Are you leaning towards UNION/RPI or SBU/GW?

Not sure. its really 50/50 right now but im also waiting for some other colleges

@student2349. Thanks.
