*** BS/MD Interview Notification for Class of 2014***

which other ones student2349? Congrats on your acceptances again.

@med007 Thanks for the info! Congrats to you! :)

For NJMS is it possible to get in from Rutgers and not TCNJ? or are you rejected from all undergrads?

My D has received admission from NJIT+SGU (7 year program), Med Scholar from SLU (4+4) and an interview from Health Scholar program in Temple (3+4). I understand NJIT+SGU will make my D as FMG but it is a gauranteed program and I heard successful residency stories while SLU and Temple are not gauranteed and an Interview and MCAT is required . What would be your input? Look forward to suggestions. Thanks

Accepted into SLU Medical Scholars!

@IMGDAD- Sorry to hear about your son’s rejection. What other programs is he waiting to hear back from?

@Collegeponderer- Congrats!!! :)

@AspireMedicDad- Congrats to your daughter for her all her acceptances! Good luck deciding what to do. I would personally suggest trying to stay within the US because it’s much easier get a good residency coming from the states, but the decision is yours. Good luck to your D :)

@texaspg- Thanks for correcting me.

Of course there are many reasons to not make a cut, but some of it truly is random. Obviously if a student isn’t a good fit or if they don’t have the scores, ECs, or leadership experience for a certain program, they won’t make the cut. That said, there sometimes are students who have all these qualities and simply don’t make it. For example, I got an interview at NJMS through 2 undergrads, but did not even receive the preliminary interview at Rutgers for the program. MedicalBoy and I have extremely similar stats, and he got an interview at Drexel through Villanova but not through Drexel; for me it was the exact opposite. Examples like these show that some of the decisions for these programs must be random. Thus, it’s important to separate the sense of validation or disappointment that comes with either getting in or not getting in to a program, and recognize that it really could have gone either way, no matter how hard you tried. I know some people who didn’t get into the Jefferson program who I think are equal or even better than I am, but were rejected. So yes, there are many actual reasons to not make the cut, but sometimes randomness/bad luck is one of those reasons. Also, the interviewer you get, which is based on luck, really does make a difference in the outcome. And I think this process is grueling mostly because of that element of randomness. You really can’t “expect” to get into any program, and it’s hard to be rejected from so many schools after we’ve all worked so hard through high school, and most of us applying to these programs are amongst the strongest students in the nation. Because of this, though, you are so right in that we’ll all be successful no matter what. We have the motivation to succeed in what we do.

People who have interviewed at Miami HPM - have you received admission to the undergraduate program yet? An admission letter to the pre-med undergraduate program was posted to my canelink webpage on Friday . The letter does not mention anything about HPM (in or out). Should I still be hopeful for HPM or am I out? Anyone else seen similar letter?

@imgdad did your son have his UMSI interview? How was it? Was he in the top 10% of his class (the website says they prefer students in the top 10%). My D had her interview there

@houstonrep
im pretty sure like 99.9999999999999% of us are in the top 10% of our class, if not higher aha~

I have not seen anyone talk about this, but has anyone had an interview for Hofstra/LIJ?

my pal interviewed at Hofstra on March 5…he loved the place. Brand new Medical school and adding on another new 65,000 square foot building. Ultra modern/hi-tech…wish I would have applied!

@houstonrep, my son is in a school that does not rank. He thought the interview went well but no one can be sure whether “went well” went far enough.

@starligh27, my son is still waiting on the decisions from Texas Tech, UMKC, and U of the Sciences. He will go to the BS/DO program if he does not get into any of the BS/MD programs.

@imgdad I’m glad to hear your son’s interview went well! :slight_smile: Best of luck to him. What did they talk about during the interview and who was his interviewer?

@houstonrep, Dr Kim Johnson interviewed my son. According to my son, the questions were all very general about himself, what he wanted to do, why medicine, etc etc, nothing unexpected. Nothing on ethics. How did your daughter find the interview? Has she applied elsewhere?

@imgdad my daughter thought the interview went pretty well too. She thought that the interviewer made it relaxing and in the form of a conversation. My daughter also applied to PACT and FAME (no FAME interview, but got a PACT interview).

I attended the UT Pact interview yesterday and it was flooded with Indians / asians. I am not one of them. So I think I have a pretty good chance. Just wondering why so many Indians / Asians go after BS - MD Programs?

Does anyone by chance have any idea on when drexel med plans to reveal admission decisions? Just wondering as we’re nearing the end!

Good one Medaspirant! I think you might be quite right though. I heard the same happened last year (30 girls, 34 Asians/ Indians and the director supposedly was quite unhappy about it). Many of them are groomed to be doctors from childhood because Asians/Indians consider it prestigious, financially safe as well as a noble profession.

What were the numbers this year?

IMGDAD - Do you have a working spouse? Can she retain a local address if your son gets into Texas Tech?

It was also heavily biased towards Indians/Pakistanis at the UMSI interview.

@HickoryDoc I received the UG admissions as well, but there’s no mention of HPM as you said.
