The Bush administration did not force anyone out, they moved of their own will. If the people in Iraq cannot get alone, it is not President Bush’s fault – its their fault. I don’t know what you want the US to do about it. If people have lost their property, that is a problem for the Iraqi government to solve.

Ethic cleansing usually means killing based on ethnicity, not merely forcing people to move based on who has more people in a neighborhood, village, etc. It is better for people who can’t get along to separate than it is for them to kill one another.

I should have added that if you really want to see ethnic cleansing, wait to see what happens if the US pulls out of Iraq the way Obama wants to do.

“Ethnic cleansing” means exactly what it has always meant - cleaning out neighborhoods at the point of a gun and on pain of death to establish ethnic homogeneity. That is exactly what General Betrayus has presided over - 600,000 between July and October, as part of the so-called “surge” - the U.S. even provided the funds and contractors to build the walls between the neighborhoods once the ethnic cleansing, accomplished with U.S. trooops on the street corners, was complete.

It isn’t genocide. That’s what Clinton did when he killed half a million children.

“I should have added that if you really want to see ethnic cleansing, wait to see what happens if the US pulls out of Iraq the way Obama wants to do.”

2.2 million refugees abroad. 2.7 million internally displaced. 1.5-1.7 million dead. A million widows. Al-Qaeda armed with U.S. weapons. Hospitals without medical supplies; schools without teachers. I don’t think the U.S. even has any standing to be part of that discussion.

“free will” are you joking? its a war zone with bombs going off everyday, little utilities, lack of food, bad medical care and you call it “free will” if they leave? there is little schooling and even the local police, whom we dismantled are fleeing…

guess some people see “free will” a bit differently than others…

guess if you have little food, can’t leave your home, have no utilities, schools that don’t function, can’t shop, your infrastructure has been destroyed by the occupying nation, guess you should just stick it out and get killed or maimed-

free will…all I can say is how sad is that comment

In other words, you are ducking the issue. And you didn’t state what you think the US should have done to stop Iraqis who hate each other from fighting.

This is one of the most inaccurate reports of current Iraq that I have read or heard (from my brother who just came home from there 3 days ago :))

Mini- why can’t the oil rich countries step in to help? I wouldn’t begrudge the cost of gas if I knew some of the profits were helping this crisis.

from last paragraph?
The United States should be leading an international effort to resolve this issue, and should be admitting more refugees. Iraq’s government should be pressed to use surplus oil revenues to pay for refugee care in host countries. Yet, on the subject of Iraqi refugees, there is a deafening silence from the White House.

You know, as much as I’m sure you’re just itching to run out on a roof and start yelling “liberal media bias!”, you should step back first and note that the media reports more about everything when it is going badly. Sky-is-falling news, reports of imminent disaster, personal tragedies, and so forth, all sell better than fairies and sunshine. If you expected anything different in this situation you need to pay more attention to the media in general.

Yep. Can’t have it both ways, razorsharp - either America stays and the resulting violence and refugees are America’s responsibility, or America leaves and can wipe its hands of the whole thing. There is no “we are going to stay, but if they get in trouble it’s their fault and we’re not helping”.

I’m glad you weren’t in FDR’s administration ^^.

What’s that you say? Jews and Nazis can’t get along? Lets get the hell out! Europe is on the other side of the ocean, what possible effect could it have on us?

What simplistic nonsense. That you can compare our refereeing of the internecine tribal warfare of an artificially created pseudo-state, enabled by the neo-con wet dream of Middle East regime change, to the systematic industrialized execution of millions of civilians by the Nazis (a bit more extreme than “not getting along”), speaks to a mind-boggling inability to distinguish a worthy from a pointless cause.

By the way, FDR’s administration did not enter the war to save the Jews.

You are creating a false dichotomy. It is not an either/or situation. We are supposed to be there to fight al Quada and protect the country from external ememies (among other things). We are not there to solve political disputes between Iraqis. That the role of their government. There is no American military solution to land disputes between Iraqis who don’t like each other. And you and mini still have not identified how America is supposed to get Iraqis to like one another without ursuping the role of the Iraqi government.
